What is going on at Waverly
What is going on at Waverly
I saw one of the craziest of my life last night, the coaches wife went after “ drunk men “ got cussed out I guess then all the parents just started arguing with one another I mean what is going on there?
Re: What is going on at Waverly
Guess so!!! It was insane!! Never seen a coaches wife run up on people like that she has guts lol!
Re: What is going on at Waverly
Parents can always say whatever they want without reprocussion so I’m glad a spouse at least said something
At some schools that gets you fired because the parents are all that matters. We’ll see if that happens at Waverly, but if it does, even more issues will arise in every sport that you bow to those nutcases

I get what you are saying, definitely not a good look. And I’m sure it is hard to continuously hear negative things about your spouse.HamPorter wrote: Sun Feb 09, 2025 10:33 pm Parents can always say whatever they want without reprocussion so I’m glad a spouse at least said something

But I will say having talked to many people in and around that program is there are A LOT of things that have went on this season and everyone shares a piece of the pie in to blame - coaches and parents. Bradley has completely lost that locker room, and I’m not solely blaming him but it’s a fact. I don’t believe parents should run the show and have say on who the coach is, but at this rate I think discussions should be had after the season by admin as to which direction this program should go… if things don’t change or get patched up, I believe many key players will not be on the roster next year.
This group has the potential to be one of the better teams to come thru Waverly in the next couple of years…. But things have to change or it will become a what if
Re: What is going on at Waverly
Hard to sit around and blame parents when this is the third time this has happened to Bradley in a matter of 3 schools. Something doesn’t sound quite right to blame the parents at Adena, Huntington & Waverly?
From the insight I’ve been given, the kids are dealing with a fair amount of emotional distress. That can be hard on players and surely taxing on their families. Hopefully Waverly is able to pull it together and finish out the season on a good note.

I think it's too late for Waverly to pull anything together. Bradley has completely given up on the team and it's been clear the last few games. The Jackson game escalated everything. Crazy coach = crazy parents. Wont be surprised if he doesn't have a job next year with the way this is turning out for the Tigers.OldHooper wrote: Mon Feb 10, 2025 8:52 am Hard to sit around and blame parents when this is the third time this has happened to Bradley in a matter of 3 schools. Having issues at 3 different schools should tell you something. I look for him to apply else where next year, possibly Minford if there is an opening. Coaching has changed these days and if your not a "legend" coach or a coach that your parents played for then newer/younger coaches do not stand a chance unless they win. Sometimes that isn't even good enough. Let coaches coach and do things their way. There is a reason why Norm Persin and Tom Barrick were successful because they were allowed to do things their way and not what kids parents wanted. Admin needs to only step in when they have to, stay way. Maybe things are too far gone with the situation, I'm not sure but gives new coaches time and let them do things their way.

Agree for the most part. There isn’t much you can do with this. 3 schools should be enough chances to prove yourself at one. I’m all for giving him a fresh start somewhere, and I think most thought Waverly would be the place especially with some of the younger talent. I can’t see him applying at a school like Minford even if that opens up. Maybe it’s time he steps down and gets a reality check.Hoopster98 wrote: Mon Feb 10, 2025 12:09 pm Having issues at 3 different schools should tell you something. The only coach I've ever seen not start his seniors on senior night, just saying.

Who says you need to start them on senior night? What happens if it is for the conference championship? Those couple minutes could be costly. Sometimes entitlement can be an issue also.

Never said anyone said that you should start them or that they're entitled to start, just said that was the only coach I've ever seen not to do it. (In 30+ years of watching HS basketball)Hoopster98 wrote: Mon Feb 10, 2025 1:01 pm not saying you shouldn't but who says that you need to start them?

Re: What is going on at Waverly
I think all but 1 senior started on senior night and he has only dressed a couple of games this year.
But that is minimal as far as what issues are happening with the basketball program. I’m just not sure this can be fixed and continued forward into next season without change. If the admin does nothing, there won’t be much of a basketball team left to coach. The numbers are already low as it is. And again, I’m just going off of 85% of the parents/communities thoughts.
I think red flags were sent when this hire happened and maybe they got ignored/overlooked. But this would be school #3 where pretty much the same situation has happened.

Re: What is going on at Waverly
He left Adena after winning the SVC and had won a district. Maybe some secondary players didn’t play, but the 3-4 key pieces in those years all played and seemingly didn’t have major issues besides early practices.
There didn't seem to be huge issues at Huntington, besides just not winning, but people were pissed when he left but there wasn’t anything over the top like there is now.
If I remember right, there were issues in Year 1 after Robertson left, which didn’t feature Bradley there too.
Coaching from the stands, rowdy families airing all of their issues on social media and whatnot, it’s just a bad all around situation that I’m not sure gets better without some parents working through issues between each other, no matter who is in charge of the program moving forward.

Re: What is going on at Waverly
Sounds like Waverly going through it. And their junior high program is also waayyyyyyyyyy down. They better make things work with this current group of sophomores/freshmen, because if a few of those kids leave, it going to be about 5+ years before Waverly anywhere close to being competitive again.
Serious question though, what were the fans' expectations for this team given they're starting 4 sophomores and a freshman? 10+ wins seems like a stretch with a group that young.*

How much NIL money do we need to put Kage in the red black and white?

Re: What is going on at Waverly
The issues at Huntington started was when he made practices mandatory during the fair. Some pretty unrealistic expectations seem to be set looking from the outside in, coming from parents and coaches. Doesn’t seem like anyone can be happy at waverly no matter what. Should just scrub the whole program clean and hopefully repair relationships during the off season.
