South Webster 59
Fairfield Leesburg 44 a final

... South Webster entered the District final with a 19-3 record while the Lions of Fairfield punched their ticket to the Convo with a record of 17-6 ... on paper this one had the potential to be the best game of the 5 games on the day ... for action - the best game of the day ... realistically it wasn't close outside the opening quarter of play... imo the Jeeps of Coach Persin & Coach Fenton played one of their better all around games of 2024-25 ... patient in the offense , great movement both players and ball (tallying 16 assists in the game), took care of the ball - only 7 turnovers vs a very defensive minded FHS club ... shot over 60% from the floor for the game/50% from behind the 3 point line ... defense travels, playing at the Convo defense is the key to getting comfortable, keeping your opponent "UN-comfortable" South Webster did it ALL well Sunday ... South Webster 59 Fairfield Leesburg 44 a final ...

... Both teams opened the game not missing a beat ... no getting used to the Convo surroundings as 5 players for each team dented the scoresheet in quarter one ... 6-1 soph PG Griffin Friend hit a shot in the paint for 2 ... soph Brody Smith added a transition bucket at the rim 2pts ... 6-5 soph Quentin McIntosh with 2pt in the paint ... 6-0 Fairfield before 6-8 sr Eli Robert for the Jeeps closed out a shot from the blocks 2pts ... Logan McIntosh drilled a deep trey for the Lions 3pts ... 5-9 soph SG Caleb Berrera was fouled on a shot in the paint miss/make for FHS ... McIntosh the elder with a shot from 7 -8 feet - 2pts ... Quentin McIntosh followed with a shot - miss - he was fouled 1/2 from the line ... the Lions scoring ended with Friend hitting an open 3 to give the sophomore guard 5pts in the quarter and Fairfield 16 in the opening 8 minutes of action ... after Roberts took the lid off, 6-1 sr. Dylan Shupert hit a three pointer 3pts ... great defense, hustle, getting out in transition was the name of the game for the Jeeps as SW had Barnard/Owen Mault and Roberts each run the floor and finish at the rim 6 pts in transition out of the SW defense ... in a reserve role off the bench Beau Stephens made back to back moves off the dribble to get into the paint , knockdown a pair of shots 4pts to end the quarter ... South Webster 17 Fairfield 16 after 1 ... Great quarter ! both teams looked under control, executing their game plans ... post season hoops - the time you need the players who "brung ya" to keep doing what they do but you also need the supporting cast to step up - defensively, and even more so offensively ... enter Beau Stephens - it "ain't" a secret - "the boy can play - can score the rock" ... the guard/swing forward gave the Jeep offense a giant boost to get separation as he drained back to back three pointers to kick start the Jeeps 2nd period giving the youngster 10pts on the game ... the SW defense was shutting down the FHS offense , the 6-2 jr. continued to carry the Jeeps offensively as he got into the paint off the dribble finishing at the rim for 2pts ... more Jeep D as 6-8 Eli Roberts with a steal at midcourt took the ball to the rim for a 2 handed monster dunk to put the Jeeps up 28-16 with 2:54 to play in the quarter ... coming out of the much needed timeout the Lions responded with a 7-0 run of their own as Smith hit a 15 ft jumper ... Logan McIntosh knockdown a deep 3 before getting fouled make/make ... Stephens for the Jeeps started the quarter, he ended it and the Fairfield run with a floater in the paint 2pts ... South Webster 30 Fairfield Leesburg 23 after 2 ... great South Webster D holding the Lions to 0 points until the final 1:39 of the 2nd - rebounding, rotations on defense ... hard pressed to find fault anywhere ... the usual questionable shot selection at times, quick shots on offense - not there ...making the extra pass ... Jeeps basketball ... for Fairfield the 2nd quarter put them behind the 8 ball as they were 6/10 from the field in the 1st period , the 2nd saw them hit only 2 fgs (2/8) for 25% shooting while the Beau Stephens led offensive attack for SW was 5/7 shooting in the 2nd ... 2/3 from behind the arc ... 63% shooting in the first 2 qtrs for the Jeeps ... SW ball movement was outstanding- making the extra pass as the napkin stats show SW with 7 assists in the first 2 qtrs ... coming out of the locker room Fairfield needed to get off early and often but the first blood was from the Jeeps side as Eli Roberts got to the rim for 2pts ... McIntosh the elder with a drive and finish for FHS 2pts ... Roberts drained a college 3 pointer before finishing in transition 2pts - a great start in the opening 3 minutes of the 3rd for South Webster ...Fairfield had to at least match SW on the scoreboard ... Griffin Friend fouled on a drive- make/make ... L McIntosh with a midrange 2 pointer and the last fg for the Lions in the qtr ... Shupert for SW fouled on a shot at the rim ... miss/make ... Owen Mault to the rim ... miss but fouled - make/miss ... Brody Smith for FHS 2/2 from the free throw line ... Hunter Barnard with an interception of a Lions pass , coast to coast for 2 pts ... another FHS turnover (4 in the qtr) ... Barnard hits a 4 fter right of the paint 2pts ... Brycin McClintic off the bench hit a deep 3 pointer to put the dagger in and turn it ... South Webster with 16 points in the qtr offensively ... held the Lions to 8 pts defensively/forcing 4 turnovers 2 going for points the other way ... South Webster 46 Fairfield Leesburg 31 after 3 ... SW offensively had only 4 miscues thru 3, were scoring at all 3 levels and in transition ... the Lions weren't coming back in this one ... SW out rebounded the Lions 15-8 in the 2nd half ... the Fairfield 25% shooting in the 2nd qtr & 18% shooting in the 3rd from the field - closed the door on this one ... Fairfield put up 13 pts in the 4th with 5/9 shooting led by Logan McIntosh's 5 pts/19 for the game ... a couple of threes made - Smith & sr. Dane Hodson each with 1 ... Friend added a drive and finish to end the scoring for FHS ... Fairfield shot 55% from the field in the 4th, South Webster hit 6 of 8 fg attempts for 75% ... Roberts with a deep 3/5pts in the qtr/19 for the game ... Shupert and Mault each with 4 pts in the period to help SW match the FHS 13 point offensive output ... SW with a complete game both offensively and especially on the defensive end shutting down the Lions for the middle two quarters to get separation ... Jeeps are D7 District Champions ... South Webster 59 Fairfield Leesburg 44 a final ...
