Montgomery and Kayser the best duo in southeast ohio

With the game these two put on today against a team making their third straight trip to Dayton, are they the best duo in the southeast to do it in a long time? Possibly one of the best duos in the state this year? What a career for the two of them!

Hands down. I know the SE district faithful always mention the few teams who have won the state as the “best” etc. idc who you are, South Webster in 06 wasn’t beating that LE team today. Oak hill in 09 wouldn’t even come close. What Bennett and Myles did today was what they’ve been doing for 3-4 years. They both led all scorers and were getting face guarded, double teamed, you name it. I believe Bennett had 5-6 blocks as well.
Myles had 33 and was the best player on the floor. Bennett had some of the best plays of the game including two big dunks. This duo to me is the best because every team they played knew who the two headed monster was, and they consistently put numbers up and won games. Give these boys the respect they deserve and earned.

Absolutely agree with everything said! Watching these boys grow up and the way they handle themselves is what makes them so loved and respected in our community! Two of the best to do it

They are one of the top three duos to ever come through this fine establishment

No argument from me, both averaged 25ppg for the season ... Kayser was always THE guy that no team could matchup with ... Montgomery ALWAYS that guy who could/would put up his 25+ per game and "run the show" at both ends of the floor... no other duo out there this season that could do or did what these 2 did and have done at Minford ... always great to have been able to come along for the ride this season to get eyes on these 2 outstanding players with skill sets like no others ...

Absolutely agree

. Myles has always been that guy, it just took some time for Bennett to mature into his body.

Those two are very good and deserve a ton of respect, but it's a giant leap to say they were better than Aldridge and Waginger (two D1 players), or Waginger and Gagai at Ironton (two D1 players).

Pre-Transfer Portal D1. Kayser and Montgomery would be D1 in that era as well, however those duos you mentioned are very good.

Myles and Kayser are good don’t get me wrong, but IMO they aren’t as good as the 06 Waginer and Aldridge from Websters glory days

Yes they are. They are just different on their skill sets.
Waginger was the best defender I’ve seen in high school. Him and Eaton from burg are 1 and 1a.
Aldridge was just a big skilled kid. Very hard to defend
Montgomery is better offensively than waginger
And keyser is better defensively

I’d pay good money to watch Waginger guard Montgomery
Waginger is the best defensive player I’ve seen in high school. He simply broke great guards from very good teams.
I’d put Minford duo in top 3

Yes they were. I'm not trying to come across as the Minford guys aren't good, but we are talking duo's that were just better imo. No offense to Minford, but the Ironton team from 05 was far better than Minford. They gave OJ Mayo and Bill Walker all they could handle in the title game. Waginger is the best pure point guard I've seen in SEO in 20+ years. He was a D1 starting guard for a reason. I'd take the duo of Ironton and SW all day.
I'm not sure what the comment about the two Minford guys being D1 back then. Neither are and neither would have been imo.

I understand that these questions are fun to talk about but comparisons are dumb. No one will ever agree and no one will ever truly know. Let’s just be glad that Southeast Ohio is producing such great talent as these young men. Those guys absolutely put it all on the line for their community and all of Southeast Ohio. Let’s just appreciate that. Also happy for Coach Shoe. It was always said that he could never win the big games. It’s still crazy that they’ve only won one District Title but they got over that hump this year and gave the Lue everything they wanted in a State semifinal game. Really happy for the Minford community. Great season and great way to close out this chapter of these 2 great players

This is an opinion board, so here's mine. Montgomery and Kayser are D-1 quality players right now. No question. They are going to D-2 programs that are better than at least 1/3 of D-1 teams in the country, including some so-called mid-majors. I've seen a fair number of guys who passed up D-1 scholarships to play at strong D-2 schools. Happens. Both of these guys are in that category.

Just one example of the quality of some D-2 programs. West Liberty and Nova Southeastern have also been elite D-2 programs:

If they were D1 players, they'd be on D1 rosters. Maybe they will in a year. Again, I can tell who hasn't actually watched SEO Basketball over the past 30 years. Aldridge was better than both of those guys. Waginger may be the best PG to play in SEO in the past 30 years. We aren't even talking about guys like Todd Mayo, who was the absolute best player in the SEO in the last 30 years.
I feel like I am being disrespectful to the Minford duo, but I didn't make the claim they're the best duo in a long time.

Miller would have been a freshmen or sophomore when Gagai and Waginger were at Ironton. Spradlin might have been a freshmen or 8th grader. They were both very good as well.
There have been so many great duo's honestly. Nick Morey and Klien at Belpre---Gagai and Waginger at Ironton---Aldridge and Waginger at SW---Carter and Fletcher Ironton---Miller and Spradlin Wheelersburg.
Ironton was the best SEO team I have seen since I started paying attention in 94. They took Cin Christian Hills to the wire in the state title game.
