Well, it's August 5th ... was hoping Floyd had changed his mind by now and moved Athens up to No. 1?

What's it gonna take pfloyd? Do I need to send an unknown person up to the land of purple with briefcase in hand? Maybe stop by 'Pfloyd Manor' to drop off a little 'something-something' so you and the misses can't take a nice vacation back to The keys?

Here is an idea, if the 'Dogs beat Warren by more than 30 on the gridiron - they should move up to the No. 1 slot!!!

:)

... I'm thinkin' "NO" on connecting gridiron to courtside LOL- nice try though! ... I'm also willing to bet that if you ask the players on both Warren and Athens THEY would go with the preseason ranking "as is" ... BOTH of these TEAM'S athletes are willing to settle it "on the court" not with some rankings made by a Purple Hippo with an Ouija Board LOL ... good thing you are going to be broadcasting this one 93dog - there will not be a seat to be had in the WarriorDome ... the Warren Admins will be turning away folks at the door ... going to have to camp out for hours to get in the door for this one ... should be "one of" IF not "THE" game in the regular season in Southern/Southeastern Ohio in the 2013-14 season ...

You know Floyd, we can do a THREE-MAN booth ... you would have a FRONT ROW SEAT - all you need to do is put the head set on and offer up some insight during the game ... LOL ... or maybe I can get you on press row at the WATH statistician!

PFloyd...... Ole 93Dog wants to settle this ANY other way than on the court. As much as Chilly used to be in our head, Warrior Blue brings back that sinking sick feeling he experienced as time was running out in the 4th quarter in the CONVO and he watched it all slip away. Or the lump in his throat as he choked on his doggy bone as Hall & Co snatched victory away at THE MAC. Can't leave out Cunningham's miracle shot to throttle the Dogs dreams after a fantastic 19-1 regular season.
So yes PFloyd our dear friend is looking for anyway possible to get that #1 slot because deep inside down in the pit of his stomach there is a dreaded fear that come January, out on #339 in THE WARRIOR DOME, the reality will be another Warren victory.

You can have all the 'smaller' wins WarriorBlue ...

When Athens beats Warren in the regional championship next year - and earns the right to go to state - it will be that much sweeter!

I'll even let you borrow a Bulldog shirt to wear when you come to Columbus to watch us ...

93Dog Must I ask the proverbial "What you been smoking" lol

Bet that 2010 Bulldog team didn't consider that a "small loss" or the seniors from last years team in THE CONVO. Listen brother when your playing at the highest levels, then they are ALL big. Another loss in January could make that mountain a little too high to climb come March. JS!

I'll toss it out there, I think Athens is the best team in the SE district right now. Warren lost 4 key players to graduation out of their 7 man rotation, while Athens returns the house.

The 4-5 new pieces for the Warriors could step right in and make them better overall, I don't know, but I like the 5 of Athens (LuehrmanX2, Burrow, Saltzmann, and Watson) over the big 3 of Warren right now.

Of course, barring any fall sports injuries, that will be a game I'm willing to drive 2 hours for when it comes around.

LuehrmanX2 and Saltzmann all nice players but not even close to Warren's Big 3 or Watson/Borrows. I'd much rather have 3 nukes than 2 all day. Coach Maddox has made a living finding new role players every year. Last year Leffingwell, Lang, Pannell and Drayer all made it possible for our fantastic run. That being said this years team with Drayer, Henthorn and Kidder the cupboard is not bare. Those kids went 21-0 and know how to win.
The other huge advantage I believe is in Maddox on the sideline. Twice last year Athens had 2nd half double digest leads and blew both. Hard as that may be to take, it's a fact. When French was lighting up the Bulldogs for 27 4th quarter and OT points I believe Athens woulda loved to had another scorer. It's a hard task to stop all 3 the same night. 26 times that proved to be true.
When the Heat change roll players nobody says they are no longer championship favorites.

Keep in mind you're talking about 2 freshmen and 3 sophomores ... Athens didn't have a kid on the court that could drive himself to practice WarriorBlue ... experience helps win tight games down the stretch, Athens simply didn't have it last year ... and lets not forget Ryan Leuhrman didn't play in the 1st Warren game - and Zacchia Saltzmen suffered a back injury and didn't even play down the stretch until the tournament games. (which ask any Athens fan and they will tell you he didn't look or play the same.)

I'm thinking now that mommy and daddy won't be driving the kids to and from practice - you will see a much improved Bulldogs team in 2013/2014. (except Ibi, he is still a 15-year old ... a 6-foot-4 and growing 15-year old however ... )

That's where the trouble starts. Driving, girlfriends, and basketball gets slightly moved aside.
Talent is talent. A healthy LuremanX2 or Saltzman wouldn't have changed the outcome. Michael Hall was practically crippled the 1st Athens game but when the time came He and Patton made the play that sealed Athens fate. Big time players make big time plays. French did the same thing at The CONVO. Again ill take 3 Nukes over 2 Nukes everyday.

Just going off of last year.. A somewhat lesser talented VC team (compared to Athens and Warren) had Athens on the ropes at the half in McArthur and ultimately kept Athens at bay long enough to seal the victory. The same VC team came back on Warren in the 2nd quarter at the Convo and had the Warren faithful on the edge of their seats...only to see Coach Maddox switch things up and dominate the second half. I've had the privilege of seeing Coach Skinner in action many times and it may just be the fact that Athens was young last year, but imo, Maddox can get his players to switch it up on the fly a little quicker/more efficient (whatever the words you'd like to put in) better than Skinner. With that said...this is a new year.. and going 21-0 with a Jv schedule means diddly when you're talking about matching up with a team as talented as Athens. With what Athens has coming back, I think THEY are THE TEAM to beat in the TVC, the Logan Sectional and the Southeast District.
