Re: Pfloyd's Elite 8 of Southern/SouthEast Ohio Week #1
I think those last two are Saturday night games, pfloyd.
If no one else does them, I can get some napkin stats up from tonight's Huntington/Piketon game tomorrow morning.
Piketon's big 3 Juniors of Brabson, Farmer, and Moore all had big games for the Streaks, but they didn't get enough production from some of their secondary players tonight. They did have 2 or 3 kids off the bench that can just flat out guard. Later on down the road, they will be an absolute handfull, especially come tournament time.
Huntington showed more depth tonight than they did against Vinton County, Greg Magill did a great job sparking the Huntsmen in the middle quarters and Jake Kellough played some HUGE defense down the stretch as well.
In Unioto's 54-36 win over Westfall, Cole Murray put in 23, while Chase Detillion pitched in with 6 points and 16 rebounds.
In Paint Valley's 51-47 win over Adena, Harrison Hermann and Eli Barker each had 20 for the Bearcats
Michael Brown finished with 19 pts and 10 rebs to lead Southeastern's 49-47 win over Zane Trace and Ian Carle had 17 to lead the Pioneers.
Saturday's SVC games
Huntington @ Paint Valley
Zane Trace @ Adena
Piketon @ Westfall(big chance for one to stay big time in the league race)
Southeastern @ Unioto

Re: Pfloyd's Elite 8 of Southern/SouthEast Ohio Week #1
Unioto has a nice guard in the Murray boy and Detillion did a very good job on the boards and can score some, too. Coach Hoops is doing a nice job with the Shermans, who should be in the mix in the SVC with Huntington, Piketon, etc.
As far as Westfall, they looked completely oppose of what they did against Greenfield. No helpside defense, and quite a few poor shots on offense. Hopefully they can regain the form they can play with for a good Piketon squad tonight.
Unioto 54, Westfall 36
UNIOTO — Murray 7-5-23; Trainer 2-1-5; Minney 2-0-4; Downs 2-0-5; Woods 1-0-2; Warner 4-1-9; Detillion 3-0-6. Three-point goals — Murray (4). Totals — 21-45 7-14 56.
WESTFALL — Carter 1-0-3; Thomas 4-0-10; Hegarty 2-1-6; Stonerock 1-0-2; Staten 1-0-2; Sartin 2-0-4; Osborne 1-1-3; Robertson 3-0-6. Three-point goals — Thomas (2); Carter; Hegarty. Totals — 15-53 2-5 36.
Quarter scores 1 2 3 4 F
Unioto 12 16 10 16 54
Westfall 9 6 8 13 36
The MSL games are on Saturday. While I'll be at the Pickaway County clash - Teays Valley at Logan Elm - two interesting games are Bloom and Canal renewing their rivalry, along the Circleville hosting Fairfield Union at Mill Street. We'll find out about Canal, Circleville and Fairfield some more with those games.

Re: Pfloyd's Elite 8 of Southern/SouthEast Ohio Week #1
from the Marietta Times:
Down the stretch, Marietta hung tough though and cut it to one (44-43) on Lenington's three. Futrell also hit two short jumpers to keep the Tigers within striking distance.
"Marietta's got some players who can play," Aronhalt said. "They're physical and very well-coached.
"I thought it was a great game for both teams. A lot of strategy."
Marietta is scheduled to play at Coshocton in an ECOL game Tuesday.
"It's not going to get any easier," Secrest said. "We're going to have to battle."
Zanesville 52, Marietta 47
at Sutton Gym
Zanesville 8 11 18 15 - 52
Marietta.. 9 12 17 9 - 47
ZANESVILLE (1-1)
Jacob Phillis 4 4-4 13, Dar Stanford 2 2-3 6, Christian Myers 4 2-2 11, Thomas Wibbeler 2 3-3 8, Brendon Bouterse 0 0-0 0, Granger Long 4 2-4 12, Marcus Johnson 1 0-0 2. TOTALS: 18 13-16 52. 3pt goals: Phyllis 1, Myers 1, Wibbler 1.
MARIETTA (1-1)
Tim Grosel 3 3-6 10, Nathan Williams 2 0-0 4, Eli Lenington 7 0-0 18, Justin Futrell 6 0-0 12, Braden Riley 1 1-1 3, Mitchel Gearhart 0 0-0 0, Matt Thompson 0 0-0 0, Alex Wesel 0 0-0 0, Jordan Satterfield 0 0-0 0. TOTALS: 19 4-7 47. 3pt goals: Lenington 4, Grosel 1.
Team stats
Shooting: Z 18-51, M 19-39; Rebounds: Z 32 (Long 10), M 26 (Williams 10); Assists: Z 10 (Long 3), M 9 (Williams 4, Grosel 4); Steals: Z 7 (Phillis 2, Wibbler 2), M 4; Turnovers: Z 9, M 15
Seems like the Zanesville edge in rebounding, turnovers, and FT shooting off-set Marietta's edge in FG shooting. Was even more sorry I had to miss the game when I read about a lot of strategy in the game! With Zanesville's +6 in rebounding and +6 in turnovers, their +12 in FG attempts and +9 in FT attempts reflect more than that difference. Zanesville must have got the the opening tip plus the last shot of nearly every quarter. 10/11 on FT in the 4th quarter, I wonder how good Zanesville's points per possession was in the 4th? Zanesville typically doesn't throw away many possessions!

daniC, sforsha, bman, mhs95_06 - thanks for the information ... great links, "napkin stats" ...if I had read some earlier posts(ie during the week) Zanesville was without one.two players due to suspensions? ... haven't read the Marietta/Zanesville paper reports as yet to verify that though ... Marietta IS a good basketball team - Coach Secrest DOES "DO" a nice job with his teams EVERY year ... I know he has gotten some criticism before BUT unfounded in my opinion ... looking forward to seeing MHS later in the season ...daniC - I KNEW that those games were tonight BUT for whatever reason I STILL typed that up => the golden years are NOT as good as their touted to be LOL ...

I agree that the criticism of coach Secrest was without merit.pfloyd wrote:daniC, sforsha, bman, mhs95_06 - thanks for the information ... great links, "napkin stats" ...if I had read some earlier posts(ie during the week) Zanesville was without one.two players due to suspensions? ... haven't read the Marietta/Zanesville paper reports as yet to verify that though ...
