Unioto finishes game on an 8-0 run to stay perfect in the SVC and overall. Everytime it looked like Unioto would pull away, ZT would make a couple of big plays to keep it tight.
Arledge had 14 pts, 13 rebs, and 6 blocks to lead the Shermans. Roepke had 19 for the Pioneers

A very back-and-forth up and down type of game. Good atmosphere, and a very very hard played game. Both teams had players get in foul trouble early with Bane for Unioto, and Tatman for Zane Trace. Kind of added an interesting dynamic to the game by taking out Zt's best offensive player of late, and taking out potentially Unioto's best defender. I wish Zane Trace the best of luck for the rest of the year. I would live to see both teams make it into the regional tournament for their divisions.
Unioto clinched atleast a share of the SVC title today with a 68-29 win over Paint valley. Unioto's remaining SVC games are against Piketon, and Adena.
Congrats to Unioto. Alot of young talent coming up through the ranks the next several years. Adena always a class act in girl's sports. Zane Trace always finds talent. Don't know what has happened to Huntington of late???
Yeah, there is a lot of talent coming up..but not just for Unioto. They have a pretty solid JV team, but not as much talent in the jr. high level. Their decent. As for Zane Trace. Piketon has a solid 7th and 8th grade team, quite a bit of talent coming up for them. Adena, Paint Valley, Southeastern, Westfall and Huntington really dont have much help from the upcoming freshman. Unioto always brings the heat, and Zt normally makes a way if thy cant find a way, Piketon is rapidly improving from what they were before, Adena always finds class acts, and my opinion its a coin toss between the last 4 teams for the next few years.
Unioto’s reserve team could arguably finish 4th in the SVC if they played the varsity’s schedule. They are undefeated and go deep on the bench.
The U’s weakest grade in the pipeline is the 8th and they are in the top 3 of the league this year and won the tournament last year. The more the Cox girl develops the better that grade will be. She has the potential to do a lot of good things for the Shermans in the next four years.
7th grade is undefeated with a talented bench that would be solid starters for any other team in the league.
6th through 3rd grade has a great pee-wee program thanks to the likes of Mr. Lump and Mr. Causey (and many more too numerous to list). I believe all the pee-wee travel teams are undefeated as well (I don’t know if the U’s 6th graders had played Huntington’s yet).
A team to watch out for is Huntingtons 6th grade class. I guarantee that group of young ladies will make some noise in the SVC someday.
well i do agree that the unioto jv is a very solid team. I wouldnt go as far as saying they would be fourth in the Varsity schedule.
The junior high teams are pretty good. And what i have heard about the Cox girl is that she isnt much into basketball, she isnt playing any aau either.
As for young tallent it looks to me like everyone around here is in denial that 7th and 8th grade Junior high teams at Piketon are solid!! and they have a decent 6th grade team as well! I know that the 7th and 8th grade girls from there will make some noise in the svc with Jenkins and Pelphrey on the 8th grade team they are 2 powerhouses and Reed and Lawhorn on the 7th. I guess we will have so wait and see then.
I can’t see the U’s reserve team beating the varsity squads of Trace (which sometimes we forget is loaded with younger talent), Adena or Piketon. As for the rest of the league I think they could beat any of them.
Wow. Big upset. I wasn't at the game, anyone have any details?
Nice work by the Lady Warriors. Unioto has had a nice run but coming back to earth might be beneficial for them going into the tournament. Reading some of the comments on this thread I think a lot of UHS people took it for granted that the golden ball had already been won. With all the talent Coach Driggs and the Lady Shermans have I figured it was lock too.
Cox gets my vote for SVC Coach of the Year. He has done a lot this year with less talent (much like the ZT coach did last year that won COY). That's my definition of good coaching.
Adena just plain and simple wanted it more. Smith was great for Adena tonight, she cut up the lady shermans from end line to end line. Sure the officiating wasn't great, but that's not a fair excuse to use for a loss, or this loss atleast. Adena played great. They hit 3-point after 3-point, made big stops, and shot amazingly in many stretches. It hurts for us Unioto fans, but, hopefully our girls can use this as a refocusing tool and get better from it.
yeah as far as the unioto reserve team goes, i would have to agree with you on that one. They are a very talented team of under classman.
and congrats to the lady warriors
LADY SHERMANS keep your heads up and keep pushing! You ladies are gonna make us proud through your tourney run! I hope the top few teams in the league can make a nice run!!
Great game! Congrats to Coach Cox and his Lady Warriors. This team is nice - great guard play. In my all-league article that I hope to have on the website next weekend, Adena was hard to sort out. This team probably has five of the league's top 21 or 22 players in my opinion, and when healthy they have six of those players. As for Unioto, they will be fine. They should still have the player of the year if not co-POYs. This loss probably takes away the talk of them getting three on first team; however, I still will probably post it that way. This should refocus them for the postseason.
Congrats to Adena, I have not seen anything about the game yet but I would guess being at Adena that there was early foul trouble for Unioto. Just a guess. This might be the best thing for Unioto heading into the tournament. All league is another thing, Adena probably won't get a player on first team. Arledge (un) Driggs (un) Roepke (zt) Brabson (pk) Dresbach(Se). Will be hard decision of who Coach Cox puts up. Adena is a very balanced team with really nobody who stands out.
You're right fulltilt. All league voting will be very interesting. Arledge (POY) and Driggs are for certain, and I'd bet Roepke and Brabson are as well. The 5th spot will be really tough to pick. Adena has had several different girls step up on different nights.

As a matter of fact there was foul trouble. I believe there was something like 20+ fouls called in the first half. I believe both teams were in the bonus at the end of the 1st quarter. Arledge didn't play much in the first half, and Elliot missed some time too. Both teams were called for a lot of fouls.
When i heard the U lost i knew the guard play had to come into effect from Adena. If Piketon had deeper guard play , they could have possibly knocked them off in the first match up this year. Coach Driggs will use this loss as a learning experance[sp]and have the team ready for the tourney.
