I believe that this is why Oak Hill girls do so well. They take care of business on the floor and don't listen to us idiots on here who have not been to any state tournaments as players or coaches.

Sometimes who starts and who doesn't is sometimes psychological. Puckett usually comes out first and Coach Hale gets on her and then she plays better the rest of the game. Maybe Caudill does better seeing the game and then coming in. Caudill seems to get winded the quickest, so maybe Coach Hale wants her in fresh the second half of the quarter fresh because halfway through the first is when Oak Hill usually makes their runs traditionally when they have the other teams tired of running.

These are all just maybes. Again that is why we are on here. Coach Hale took two teams in his first 3 seasons back to the regionals. Those two teams didn't belong anywhere near the regionals but obviously someone knew something. And last year, yes they were talented but look at what they were, 3 FRESHMAN, 2 SOPHOMORES and 3 JUNIORS. Most would agree that last year was a surprise. Most would agree that this year was suppose to be the year, but hmmmm someone was able to get them ready.

How about we just say give the award to Cook and the Lady Oaks continue to do what they do best. TEAMWORK

Would somebody like to elaborate on the SOC I please? LOL...the SOC II argument's getting a little out of hand.

For the SOC I it would either be Missy Buckley or Alyssa Raines. I would give it to Raines simply for the fact that she averages 20 rebounds a game and close to 10 points. She is an animal underneath the boards.

To me it would be hard not to give this to an Oakhill player....they are just the total package but JMO. It will go to Cook but would it still go to Cook if she was a player on this fantastic Oakhill team.

I like to read most of the posts on this web site. This one has really turned ugly real fast. What needs to be remembered is that these girls are teenagers. Some of the stuff being written on here is disheartening. Coach Hale is the leader of the Oaks, and does an excellant job, and he gets results. The worst award in my mind is Player of the Year. Whoever wins it, not everyone will be happy. Some people get real nasty. I have not watched enough of the SOC-II games to have any idea who should get the award. Myself, I would cherish a State Championship Trophy more. If they are good enough to win the State Title, it would remind each girl how hard they worked as a team to get there. Like someone else has already said, "No I, In Team", Good Luck to all the girls now and what ever you do after these short few years in High School. Thanks

PSSSS If they don't win the State Title, thats OK. They still are a special group of girls. I am Proud to know them, and enjoyed watching them play.

First off, let me say I"m not putting any Webster players down. They are all young and not much experience except for Cook. I've seen Cook play many years now not only high school but AAU. She is a very competive player not only in basketball but everything she does. She just has the drive that she wants to win. Her style of play in AAU is somewhat different than high school because she is surrounded by other players that are just experienced as she is. Oak Hill knows this because she played with their two senior starters on the WV thunder team for many years. But when high school ball starts she has to carry a heavy load not like Oak Hill who every person on their team plays AAU. I can not believe the trash talk she gets for working her butt off to help her team win. What do you expect her to do? Most teams are'nt as lucky as Oak Hill to have eight or nine players that can all contribute, Most teams usually have one or two they depend on. I feel Cook does what she has to to win, does't everyone. In my opinion Cook has handled the pressure from all the area teams and my guess is she is leading the SOC in points and rebounds. I feel she is very good candidate for SOC POY

Also heard a rumor at the game tonight that Cook is closing in on her 2000th point. Maybe she needs around 50. If so she is also close to breaking Nick Aldridge's record. that would be the schools all time leading record. If anyone knows for sure please let me know.

I would never take anything away from Cook. Great player. I'm just not wanting anything taken away from the girls on the Oakhill team. They just don't stand out individually as easily because of the team they are on.

My previous post was not in response to the POY. I feel Cook will probably end up with this award. That said, I think there is so much more to the game of basketball than just scoring. But when you read news articles, the only stats you will see are the points made and sometimes rebounds. I agree with 8102ra, it is extremely hard to stand out, especially on paper, when the entire team is talented in some aspect of the game. The only way to see a standout is to attend a game. And I don't know how many of those who get to do the voting have the opportunity to see too many of the games. So they have to rely on the sportswriters. It is a Catch 22.

She is VERY close, and WILL break it, barring any serious injuries. However, I think it might be a little over 50 if I had to guess. Last I heard it was 171 and that was like 4 or 5 games ago. She needs 2011 to tie Nick's record, and 2012 to break it, obviously. GOOD LUCK KAYLA!

good luck lady oaks!! :-D

If you are frustrated by the fact that Caudill does not start then take it up with Doug Hale and leave the other girls out of it. I can get you his phone number just PM me. its quoted right above you bad mouthing the other girls on the team. so you need to grow up and realize that the girls on this team and any other team for that matter, do get on here and look at what people say about them. i'm not saying anything bad about caudill because she is a good player and i know a lot of people wonder why she doesn't start. but she gets as many or more minutes than a lot of starters. her play speaks for itself. The way I look at it Oak Hill has 8 starters. all of the top 8 usually play about the same amount of minutes. outside a game or two when you get into foul trouble.. etc.. etc..

The reason I said a disgruntled viking fan was because posts like this look eerily similair to posts a few years ago about the TVC player of the year for the boys. The Vinton County people were arguing between 2 of their own players saying one was better than the other etc.. etc..

I usually read these posts and laugh at the unreasonable rational of most of them. But this was one occasion I felt compelled to weigh in.
I don't know what games you have been watching at Oak Hill, but the top 8 players do not have the same amount of playing time. The top 6 players may have, but I have been at some games when Caudill was left in when the reserves were playing, not so that she could score and pad her stats (which does happen a lot when the game is a blowout) but to direct the plays from Coach Hale.
It is obvious from the previous posts a very good question is why exactly doesn't the Caudill girl start? If you watched the state finals last year, the player that gave Regina (who was stacked with Division I college prospects) everything they could handle was Caudill, a freshman. Had she been in the game longer than she was, who knows what the outcome could have been. And then you have to ask why Caudill didn't make the SOCII All-League team (which is picked by the coach!) but made the district teams! What is going on there????
I don't think nuggett77 needs Hale's phone number. He doesn't act like the type of person who cares what other people think, not even the majority!

I agree with the sentiments that most of the posts have on here. Teamwork is what wins ballgames, period. That beging said I had the oppertunity to watch the Lady Oaks face Regina last year and can only hope that Caudill starts this time against them, that is if they are so fortunate to square off against them again. Last year when she was finally put in the game she changed the entire flow of play, she turned the tide, as it were. I think if she were to start, especially against teams that pose a challenge to the Oaks, she would help them to get the game started on the right foot. Go Lady Oaks!

By the way: To answer the actual question, Cook should be SOC II POY, she's a great player and has paid her dues, she deserves it.

How can a player who has signed to play D1 @ University of Cincinnati-getting ready to break 2000 pts. in her career-leading the league in scoring NOT be the Player of the Year??? To all of you who are on here talking about Oak Hill-Oak Hill is a very, very good basketball team-the best team I have seen!!! They have several really good players, who average from 8-14 pts. each per game. This makes for an outstanding team who has a chance to win it all. We are talking about Player of the Year-Cook hands down is the player of the year!!! Take her off South Webster and add any player from Oak Hill to that team and what is South Webster's record??? I'm again taking nothing from the Oak Hill team-the best team I believe I have ever seen!!! THIS IS NOT A TEAM AWARD-This is, PLAYER OF THE YEAR !!!!!!!! Cook is the player of the year!!!!!!!!!!

what about the rest of the stats. How do cook and adkins from Oak Hill stack up against each other on stats. Rebounds, assist, steals the whole package? Can someone find out?

Don't know about Adkins but Cook probably leads the Jeeps in scoring, rebounds and assist. I think she was 2nd in rebounds last year behind Sherman so I'd say she's first this year.

I'd say Cook leads the Jeeps in all categories, except turnovers, fouls, etc.

Give it to Cook. Her stats back it no question. The players, coaches, and fans from the little hamlet on SR 93 could care less about an indiviual award. We already got the SOC award we want, SOCII League Champions!!!!!!

Thats right, as a team Oak Hill is the best BUT Cook stands by herself the best. ;-)
