I see your point Hawkeye a little better now ... I guess a girls team playing an opponent that possess only one real weapon calls for a little different strategy and probably 'appears' differently to the knowledgable fan. I just took your first post as being a little negative toward Daugherty's effort put forth in that 1st game versus Vinton. We can agree to disagree about playing that sort of defense being considered a 'junk defense' ... I just see it as a great effort by the defensive player, and good strategy by the coach ...

That's cool ... but you have to admit, seeing as the girls basketball forum has been so dead and quiet all year that you could almost hear crickets, having a good discussion about anything seems entertaining.

Just so you know, Alexander has played a straight up man all season long. They play straight up man no matter who they face, no matter how much smaller they may be than the other team. Any time you want to see the proof, the camera doesn't lie. I'll take whoever Alex puts up for it with that straight up in your face man D they play. By the way 93, that is a great thing you did with the new site. I love it. Are you gonna try to keep it up for all the sports?

Most definitely ... Ive had it since the start of football season .. it's just going through a changing/growing process and will only continue to get better ... once coaches/scorekeepers bye into it, I will have the tolls to have LEADERBOARDS for every sport every week.

It's very obvious that Dixon deserves this award and you do nothing, but strengthen that argument by nt being able to name anyone else that deserves it. If you really thing somebody from Alexander deserves the award, give us a name, any name. If you can't name one person on that team that deserves the award, then it makes it pretty obvious that noone does.

ELENA LEIN from Athens has been coming on lately; she has been recording double-doubles all year ... Against VC she had 18 points/12 Rebounds ... Vs Alexander 12 pts, 8 reb ... Vs Vinton County the 2nd time 12 pts, 7 reb ... against Meigs the other night she had 11 pts, 11 blocked shots and 6 rebounds ... last night Vs Meigs she had another 14 pts.

Wayne Horsley stated in an article the other day that she is over 100 blocks on the season ... that's over 5.0 blocks per game.

I'm not sure of her total stats for the season. I can probably get them, what I gathered above are from a few old articles I rounded up.

I am sorry I started this topic. All you hear is put downs and arguments as to why some one doesn't deserve the award. I wish some people would grow up.

I think you got the same type of responses on the boys' thread you started on the P.O.Y.

I think it is called a discussion to a question. I have not read any "put downs" only intelligent debate. If you can't handle that or are wanting a "canned" answer then don't pose the question.

Tori Dixon, Excellant player and even better person. Great girl to be around and helps other's around her play better. This is only my pick, nothing against the other great girl players from the TVC. Good luck to them all

hawkeyepierce wrote:In all fairness, 93, you can hide behind your journalistic credo, but I had taken it that you have been adversarial in your retort to my opinion why Dixon should win the award. I have stated my thoughts and reasons articulately, but yet, because they differ from yours, I am wrong. Dixon is the best player in the league, unfortunately for her, her supporting cast as not contributed as a coach may wish. And every other coach in this league knows this, you stop Dixon, you stop the Vikings. As you said, Coach Guthrie said just as much. Now we can argue the philosophies of what junk defenses are or are not, but I will say this, I have been around or coached the game for 25 plus years, and I know a lot of coaches and they say that if it is not Man-to-Man (trapping or straight up) or zone whether it is a true zone or a match-up zone, then it is "junk." Some older coaches think zones like a 3-2 or 1-3-1 is junk. And that could be the problem, maybe it is a matter of generational communication.

Just because you do not agree with Kenny Bixx (and he is more than moronic), does not give you the right to warn him. I hope that because I do not agree with you, that I do not get warned either.

I am totally with HP on this one. Don't turn yourself into a "LadyLancerForever" moderator that people used to have to deal with over on the puddle. That jackass was a total embarrassment to every one from Fed Hock, and eventually got his/her moderator status revoked over on the Huddle, back when it was the "place to be". Being overzealous and wanting to "pull the trigger" on people, prematurely, doesn't go over well. Do we want Preps to develop the reputation that the Puddle had, two or three years ago???? I'm sure that Matt Ash doesn't want that, or your fellow moderators.

Threatening posters publically within the thread, isn't very cool. Send them a PM and tell them to put the brakes on it.

Being a moderator on here, or any internet forum, well, carries alot of responsibility. Too much that I would want to deal with, that is for sure. Just my thoughts on this Bulldog, take them or leave them.

I'll go ahead and 'leave' them SD ... I have no clue what you refering to as 'threatening posters publically' ... For one, I did P.M. him and I also P.M. Hawkeye ... I believe we worked things out 'privately' and just agreed to disagreed ... Me 'WARNING' Kenny Brixx - I just don't see as 'threatening' what so ever ... I actually stated such comments that he made sometimes get posters banned or kicked off - but I clearly informed him that I am not like that and are willing to give people chances ... How you can 'twist' those words around into a threat is pretty mind boggling.

I'd select Tori Dixon.....even though she doesn't live in Athens County. Hawkeye nailed it when describing her play. She's the best individual player in the TVC Ohio hands down.

The whole POY thing is an absolute joke. Always political......always subjective.

Hope this doesn't get me in trouble with the Mods.

Tori Dixon, no doubt!
Her little sister should follow in her footsteps too.
Best of luck Tori; you too Megan.

Once again, what are some TVC numbers, what did she do? What about other girls, all I am reading is, so and so is a nice girl or good player. This is about numbers. Now, not picking anyone here, just want to be able to make an educated decision.

Elena Lein official stats: e-mailed in to trivalleyconference.com from head coach Wayne Horsley.

He e-mailed them to me because I have been asking for stats all year from coaches; if I could get evry coach to do it, I could have a leaderboard posted and folks could view actualy statistical comparisons amongst players ... it was a great too during football season - hopefully next year we can iron out the glitches and have it for hoops too.

ELENA LEIN:

Elena's TVC Stats: 11 games.

13.5 pts a game on 62% FG%

Reaching Double figures in 8 of 11 games.

With a high games of 30 points, 13 Blocks, 13 Rebounds

7.8 Boards a game

65 blocks

8 Assist

11 Steals

19 T.O.'s

1 Triple Double

5 Double Double

Guess I'll add my 2 cents to this one. I'd have to go with any of the top 3 Alex scoring starters. Morgan Grinstead, Whitney Daugherty, Kayla Radekin, Any one of them can score double figures any given night, but also rebound over girls much taller, all are excellent defensive threats and are unselfish team players, and any one of them can be the Go To player to step up if needed. I guess this is just a case of having an embarassment of riches to choose from, since the other starters, Julie Els and Kaitlyn Guthrie are the Defensive specialists on the team! Usually, though, POY will come from one the league leading teams, and they lead them all!

Its obvious noone from Alexander deserves it and obvious the Dixon girl does. Well lets see if I can find a name or 2 for you. Daugherty held your obvious choice to 7pts the first meeting, Radekin held your obvious choice to 4pts the second. Grinstead and Guthrie guard the post players and give up alot of height every game while both play with bad injuries. The Els girl may be the best defender on the team. Those girls have only givin up an average of 30.83 pts a game and thats 7.71 pts a quarter in the TVC OHIO. This is a man to man D they play and thats why I wouldn't put just one name up because they all are good enough to be put up. It looks like to me the only obvious thing in the TVC OHIO POY award is its up for grabs. Good luck to all the girls that are nominated.
