Did he hit anyone? Did he choke anyone? If the answer to both were no, then shut up!!! I like it when coaches show passion and get upset. Our society now a days says coaches aren't allowed to yell or get upset because they might hurt someones feelings!!! Get over it!!!! I say, if a coach gets upset, then he or she may raise their voice or throw their arms (NO CONTACT!! :-D ) Look at the UCONN girls coach. He belittles them, yells at them, throws things, but they love him and they WIN!!!!

No, spill it.

I think he crossed the line in how he was talking (or should I screaming like a mad man) to his team. Before anyone says it, yes I heard Coach Hale get excited at his team also but it was nothing compared to this guy. My girlfriend actually pointed it out to me. She couldn't believe it either. He had lost control of himself for a moment, red in the face yelling, throwing his arms around, hitting his clipboard on the floor, etc. This really took me by surprise after watching their last game. I have the upmost respect for the girls on the Alexander team in how they played the game and how the conducted themselves before, during and after the game BUT I lost respect for him over his actions displayed during the game!

The Lady Spartans coach has been coaching for a number of years and he has coached like this every year of every game he coaches. He has never stuck a girl, maybe hurt a feeling here or there but you know what, the real world is not wonderful. He has an awesome record for his coaching abilities. He has taken a team to state semi's from athens county that has NEVER been done before. Give him a break. He has a heart as big as Texas and if any of the present or past lady spartans ever needed a favor or just a person to talk to, this guy would be there for them no matter the time of day. Yes, it might not look good to those of you who don't know him but he is a big softly...lol Keep up the good work COACH!!!

It has nothing to do with me getting a life. Just posted what I had observed and tought it was odd because of how well he handled himself before. Like I said in earlier posts, he seems to be a good coach and it caught me off guard. I'm not against a coach getting into a game and getting excited, that wasn't what I said. I'm not bashing him for it. Was just wondering what was up.

Spartan- I doubt he cares either. That's life.

Come on, let's not get negative. The posts so far since the game has finished has been very positive with great sportsmanship. Let's not let one person ruin a good thread. As for vrodjason, every coach has their own style and different players respond to different styles. To each his own. I feel both teams were well coached, desciplined, had great sportmanship and attitudes, and responded well to their coaches style. I also feel (just my opinion) both coaches respect each others coaching ability.
Once again keep the positives coming, and go Lady Oaks!!

Thats what I was trying to say! It didn't jive with the way he coached before and seemed out of character for him.
Forget I said anything.

Good game for both teams. Glad it was injury free!

No problem, vrodjason, misunderstanding on both ends. The games I have watched Coach Guthrie coach he has always been an in your face kind of coach. He tends to settle down when he knows he needs his players to be calm, but when they are not playing up to their ability he lets them know it. Even if they are winning by a lot he still gets in their face, it doesn't matter if it is his starters or his JV players (which it is my understanding got to play a lot of 4th quarters this year), he still coaches the same. One thing that people from outside of the TVC doesn't realize is he only had 7 varsity players this year.
He must have gave you the impression he was a calm coach, lol, not on your life. He is very intense and demanding. Today's paper said they had 2 a days over winter break. I think they said 6 in the morning and 5 at night.
Sorry about the misunderstanding.

That's exactly what I was trying to figure out. No need to be sorry. Thanks for your input buckfever!

For some reason, my original post after the game didn't post here. I guess that's what you get for being computer illiterate! I just wanted to reitterate that this was a great game with wonderful atmosphere and fantastic fan support for both sides. The Lady Spartans gave the Oaks all they could handle and I felt that the only stat they fell lower than the Oaks in was the all important shooting percentage in spite of being way outsized again. We are so proud of all of these ladies and have enjoyed watching you this year. To Kaitlyn, the lone senior, she will be missed not only for her leadership and defensive skills, but for her humor, grit, and most of all determination. Not many people could or would even want to play with the injuries and pain she's played through the last 2 years. To the rest of the girls, you'll all be back next year and ready to move on . Keep up the hard work this summer and we're sure you'll be going on to even greater heights, and YOU will be the team everyone is gunning for next year!!! Remember you have the HEART of a CHAMPION!!!
