3/10 Regional Semi: Waterford vs Eastern

As a man, I'll admit that I was wrong.

A little over a year ago, I (and a few others) were not very happy with the Southern outcome at WHS. And I did say I thought it was classless.

After watching things since, and especially tonight, I was dead wrong about one thing. Coach Close is a very respectable man.

In the postgame handshakes, seeing him pull aside the two Eastern seniors with a hug and wish them the best ... well, that was pure class. It restored my faith in everything that I ever loved about the Waterford program before that one night. And everything since.

I am not asking for your forgiveness, but I will say that my respect for your area has returned to where it once was this season. And will also say that after tonight, I have gained even more respect for your area and Mr. Close.

Congrats on another outstanding hoops season (I believe 7 straight titles in girls basketball is a TVC record, but don't quote me on that) and best of luck in all of your future endeavors. See you in the spring, then fall, then winter ...

Congrats Lady Eagles, it's all history from here on out.

Excellent seasons by both teams, too bad one TVC team had to knock another out of the Regionals, Congrats.

Yes, but if they would have each played another team last night, then maybe no TVC team would make the "elite 8".

With Burdette in foul trouble and Emily Brown playing like she was, under control, not in foul trouble, and really playing well, you'd have thought Waterford would be in good shape to win the game. But senior Connery especially, and the other Eagles stepped up for a great win.

I wonder if the pressure defense that the Waterford coach was working on against teams like Southern and Miller, which kept them from even crossing half court when he was up 30+ helped him out in this game?

Yes the Connery girl should have been put up for player of the year in the TVC IMHO.

Emeri was good but she was the second best player on her team

Games I saw when Connery came out they struggled. Not so much when the freshman came out.
