what do you know about sheridan, and athens? should this be a good game?
with athens being 17-2, doesn't look like too tough of a draw for them?
Maxpreps strength of schedule rankings(per post above):
Marietta 14.5
Warren 13.8
South Point 11.3
New Lex 10.6
Sheridan 10
Gallia 8.6
Jackson 5.8
Vinton 4.8
Athens 4.6
FU 3.3
This would suggest a more competetive Athens/Sheridan game than the records indicate.
1.Coaches have brackets figured out completely before voting. Example- Marrietta/Warren game...eliminate one threat opening rd. and winner gets #1 MT next game...only real threat in other Dist. (Logan beat Unioto by 14?, nuff said)
2. SOS or not, teams avoided Warren and Marietta this year and FU plays no one from the SE typically..that has to change, coaches/programs HAVE to start scheduling each other better to eliminate this debacle and let the teams sort it out on the court, but most fans know and realize that won't happen for fear of programs being exposed for how good they really are
3. Without naming names it was an absolute disgrace what happened last year @ district mtng. for player awards, Dawson not even ranked as best player in district by coaches yet was DII POY???? All because coaches voted their kids 1-5 best and slighted others...nuff said
4. As long as coaches vote and ESPECIALLY if they can vote for their own teams and players it will ALWAYS work out this way, in some ways I can't blame the coaches though, the system is flawed badly
5. To end on a good note...there are good coaches and programs out there willing to play anyone/anywhere and those programs will only get better...problem is, they will ALWAYS be penalized for it come tourny time based on their record alone in the current system
Fairfield needs to be moved to the other sectional where they have more common opponents. That's the trouble. I don't blame Fairfield for not scheduling teams in this sectional other than Sheridan. Beside maybe Athens, everyone else is a haul to get to.
Marietta loses 58-38 today at Zanesville(18-4, 11-2), and they lost 39-37 to River View(17-5, 12-1) on Wed. After starting out 9-1, Marietta has gone 1-6 in their most recent games making their record now 12-9 (8-5), with their last game scheduled at home Monday with Waterford. They need to get a winning streak started soon!

Buzzard led the game in scoring with 20, includng 11/13 at the line. Warren had 10 FG (3 treys) and 24/30 on FTs. Marietta had 17 FG (4 treys) and 14/25 on FTs.
Marietta scoring:
17 Dawson on 4 FG(one trey), 3 in the 1st qtr. 8/9 FT including 5/5 in the last 4 mins. A big steal resulting in a lay-up and 1 to go up 43-39.
10 Smith on 3 deuces in the 3rd qtr, and a 3 pt play to cut it to 35-34.
6 Johnson with 2 big deuces in the 4th.
5 Walsh with a big trey very early and 2 FTs with 5 sec left to seal it.
5 Hill with a big deuce late in the 3rd to start the comeback from the 34-26 deficit.
4 Cozzens with a trey in the 2nd, and a FT with 13 sec left to make it 50-47.
3 Barton with a big trey to tie it at 39.
2 Bonar with a deuce in the 3rd.
With Dawson scoring only 2 points combined in the 2nd and 3rd qtrs, each won by 4 by Warren, the points scored in those two qtrs by others were critical to the Tigers not losing any more ground than they did in the 2nd and 3rd. With a lesser wrap on her wrist Monday night she scored 37 with that freedom. Tonight she had even more freedom with no wrap, but it did not translate to more points due to the very tough defense Warren played on her.
