Congrats 2 FU on a big win, anybody there got thoughts on the game? Couldnt make it up 2 Athens, just curious as to why FU seemed to pull away completely at end of game again like 1st rd. game...Did FU start hitting some shots or was it more of what MT didn't do?
Re: DIVISION II - DISTRICT TOURNAMENT - CONVO
Fu's best player, Wyeth, picked up two early fouls. MT had a chance there in the first quarter to run a way a little. FU didn't relent though and stayed close. Then Wyeth came back in the 2nd quarter and Fu had a 24-20 haltime lead. Then Fu scored only 2 points in the third quarter and went 0-17 in a stretch and started in the 2nd quarter and lasted the entire 3rd. But because they played great defense they were only down 27-26 after the 3rd. It was then that FU turned up the pressure and began to hit shots. Once they started that, they completely pulled away from MT. I wasn't there, but from 6000 miles away, it sounded like FU played very very poorly for 3 quarters then finally found some rythem and dominated MT in the 4th.

Actually FU played 2 good quarters. Both teams a little nervous to start and MT led 8 5 after one. 2nd qtr saw FU settle down and win the qtr 19 12 to take a 24 20 lead. FU could not throw it in the ocean in 3rd qtr had several good looks but could not make anything. 4th quarter the flood gates opened up for FU 3 nice pick and rolls from Wyeth to Bernard opened up the lead.

Congrats to Athens as they defeated the Jackson Ironladies, 45-44 tonight. Good luck to Coach Horsley and his team as they take on Fairfield Union next week.
A few thoughts on the game tonight. Both teams seemed to be out of rhythm in the first half offensively. Ridout missed most of the 2ndQ after picking up her second foul, which had Jackson somewhat out of sync. Kerrigan Hoover was doing an outstanding job defensively on Doseck, which made things very difficult for Athens. In the second half, Jackson had a couple chances to break things open, but some costly turnovers, and great plays by Doseck kept Athens right there.
In the 4thQ, Jackson had taken a 35-30 lead after a three-pointer by Hoover and seemed to have all the momentum. Then Athens ended up at the free throw line, cut the lead to 35-32, and then Jackson turned the ball over on the inbounds pass, which led Doseck right into a three that she banked in. At 35-35, Athens got the momentum back and avoided letting Jackson build a lead. Tied 37-37, a missed FT ended up in the hands of Doseck yet again. Hoover blocked her shot, which I thought was a great play, but she must have fouled her on the follow through. Of course, Doseck was clutch and made all three shots to give Athens a 40-37 lead. Jackson then had their chance to cut into the lead at the FT line, but couldn't connect, and after a nice offensive rebound, Jenkins lost her balance and lost the ball, which led to a lay-up on the other end to push the lead to 42-37 with 1 minute to go. From there, Jackson tried their best behind buckets from Ridout and Jenkins, but they ran out of time.
In the end, some crazy plays that led to 6 points from Doseck (on a three-pointer and from the FT line) sealed the deal for Athens. The Ironladies played their hearts out and have nothing to be ashamed of. Athens made some big plays tonight, and the 50/50 breaks just didn't go Jackson's way. In a close game, those things end up making a big difference.
The Ironladies finish at 23-2, Co-SEOAL Champions, and District Runner-Up. Not the way they would've liked for it to end, but a historic season for Jackson basketball. The City of Jackson is proud of what this team accomplished this season. The Ironladies need to keep their heads up, and start working toward what should be another outstanding season next year.

I92, I 'd love to blame it on you for bringing the bad karma but the Lady Panthers weren't playing very well before you showed up. I give credit to FU because they outhustled us to loose balls and looked like they wanted it more than we did. i think we got outcoached tonight also. I was soooo frustrated watching this game tonight because this wasn't the MT team i've seen playing so well the last 9 games. They were forcing way too many passes into double teams and acted like they've never seen a full court press before because imo FU's press wasn't the best we've seen this year and we've handled pressure very easily all year. We had players who looked lost at times both offensively and defensively. There was no movement in the offense and we kept trying to the run same play that was only working maybe 25% of the time. We weren't switching on defense when getting picked especially in the early 4th qtr. Some of the coaching decisions were confusing me too with substitutions for some players who needed to stay on the court and not making adjustments when clearly what was being run offensively wasn't working. MT made more bad passes and unforced TO's than i've seen all year, we had to have close to 30 turnovers tonight. PLUS, we had at least from my count 10 shots missed from right under the basket, it may have been more. It was a very frustrating 2 hr ride home tonight.Ironman92 wrote:Sorry mray.....I brought MT bad luck or something. It was 28-28 when I sat down.

Sounds like you may have had a bad day.BannersnRafters wrote:....both Athens and FU have girls who can put the ball in the hoop, BUT neither have quite the team talent or team concept (5 thinking as 1) player 4 player as MT and Jackson, typically the TEAM usually triumphs over the more individually-strong team more times than not, IMO Jackson is a winner on neutral floor having already beaten Athens on road, and MT with their STRONG team D play makes it hard 4 ANY team 2 score consistently
