Crazy Play - Officals make correct call???
Here is a link to a Youtube video. Play occurs in the first 60 seconds, so unless just want to, it is not necessary to watch anymore of clip. Have never seen anything so bizarre. Officials called 5 second. You can't see it but player in middle of circle with ball was bouncing ball of her teammates back.

Was the player with the ball closely guarded (defense within 6 feet)? If so, 5-second call is valid.

I think the intent was to just stall the ball since the team in white was so much better.Football fan wrote:What were they trying to accomplish with that play ?

Defense was within 6 feet. Player with the ball was not dribbling or just holding the ball. She was bouncing it off her teammates back. Is it still a 5 second call?RoadMan wrote:Was the player with the ball closely guarded (defense within 6 feet)? If so, 5-second call is valid.

I'll guess yes, as she did not pass it to another teammate nor did she lose possession, am I correct?

5 second count is the correct call. Rule 9, Section 10, Art 1b...A player shall not while closely guarded: In his/her frontcourt, control the ball for five seconds in an area enclosed by screening teammates.
If she was bouncing the ball off teammates back, that is control. She doesn't have to be holding or dribbling the ball, just in control.

What if the girls surrounding her turned around and they actually just kept passing it off to one another. Then what?

As long as they continue passing the teammates would no longer be screening. In that situation, by rule nothing could be called.Regulator wrote:What if the girls surrounding her turned around and they actually just kept passing it off to one another. Then what?

Appeared to be their 1st possession of the game. I would assume it was something they had practiced.DIDO wrote:wonder if they practiced that or put in at a timeout smh

No way of knowing what the coach actually said. Realistically, you are playing a team ranked in the top ten in the state and your team is 4-13, you should tell the truth. "We have to be creative!!"Super Trooper wrote:So in practice you tell your players hey we aren't very good so let's do this

I guess that just wouldn't resonate with me as a player to resort to that. I'd rather lose by 40
Re: Crazy Play - Officals make correct call???
agree trooper and also understand creative but that play aint beating nobody. that coach lost it
