Just a thought== Feel free to tweak it. If you have a school you are involved with and can accumulate these games do so and post what their points would be.
This could be used to determine seeding for tourn. games.
1) Beat a team in your division=1 pt. (Ex. Div.3 team beats a div 3 team)
2)Beat a team in a division above you =2 pts. (Ex. Div 3 team beat a Div.2 team)
3) Beat a team in 2 divisions above you =3 pts. (Ex. Div 4 team beats a Div. 2 team)
4)Beat a team in a division below you = .5 pts (Ex. Div.2 team beats a Div.3 team)
5)Lose to a team in your division =0 pts.
6) Lose to a team in a division above you= .5 pt. (Ex. Div.4 team loses to a Div.3 team)
7) Lose to a team in a division below you =( -.5 pts) (Ex. Div.3 loses to a Div.4 team)

What was wrong with the old way?? Yeah there might have been some good old buddy stuff going on, but for the most part the brackets were what they should have been.Beyond the top two seeds does it really matter? If you go far enough you'll have to face whoever you're trying to avoid anyway.

Mark May,
OTHER THAN THE FIRST 2 SEEDS DOES IT MATTER? Shame on you, you sound like the real Mark May. Yes, it matters to every student/athlete that they are placed in a bracket where they DESERVE to be. I think this is why they play the regular season and their record should have something to do with where they are placed.

I even added a second part to this system. For every road win add .5 to total and every home win add .25.
Re: Pts. system to determine seeds in basketball?
Or we could seed the each division in the district from top to bottom, so it is much harder to game the system (17 schools in D2, 30 schools in D3, etc) and then let coaches pick where they want to go on the bracket. Kind of hard for teams to try and hide then. No need for a points system, just do the tourney like most of the rest of the state instead of living in the 1950s like we do currently in the Southeast.
