Re: Eastern @ Waterford
Well that is dumb. I mean, Eastern just beat a team by 79 points. It is a different story when its "your" guy, right? When there is that wide of a discrepancy in talent, there will be some ugly scores. Clearly though one guy "loves" it and one guy did all he could to keep to avoid it being 100 instead of "only" 79. GTFO with that nonsense.M0TIVAT0R wrote:I believe the point Steely is making is the "Karma" being a resounding beating suffered by a coach who loves to give those out on a regular basis. Not even Farmer Yoder and his gang could hold off the Eagles at Waterford this time.
Secondly, if karma is one bad loss in a decade for something that is done on "a regular basis" then karma has really lost her edge. Can't imagine what the waiting has been like to throw out that word, but Eastern wasn't getting any kind of payback for the cosmos.
The only thing going on there was that Eastern is an extraordinary team this year and Waterford isn't. Bound to happen sometime.

None of this nonsense would be spoken about if Waterford had hired my crew like they usually do for big games. So blame the coach for this one, he could have had a chance. Just look at the boys home record, that's all the evidence you need.

Well when you play tvc hocking varsity teams other than Waterford or eastern the only way not to blow them out is bring up the eighth grade teams and that may make it a little closerSteely Dan wrote:My friend, that was my point, exactly!!! :122245M0TIVAT0R wrote:I believe the point Steely is making is the "Karma" being a resounding beating suffered by a coach who loves to give those out on a regular basis. First, did I say anything degrading the team's record or accomplishments this year? If so, where? Congratulations on second place, and good luck in the tournament.money tree wrote:Steely Dan eastern has a very good bball team this year and congrats to them and good luck the rest of the year. Let me remind everyone, and I mean EVERYONE, about some history here. There were some horrible beatings administered to Southern, Miller, et al and yes, Eastern by the Waterford girls program over the last 10 years or so in the TVC. I remember Eastern being on the receiving end of some 50+ point beatings at the hands of the Lady Wildcats even within the last six or seven years. That was the point of my comment about "Karma". What goes around comes around, like it or not. The Karma comment is directed at the program, not the girls, so don't even try and twist it that way.
And for anyone familiar with the history of the margin of victories that Waterford has experienced over the last 10 years, how can you argue that a 30+ point defeat was inevitable when the talent pool shifted. Coaches and other programs have long memories. You folks from Waterford not liking my comments, well, there are a whole lot of former players from the other TVC schools that didn't like the beatdowns they took either. So, now the shoe is on the other foot and the slipper isn't comfortable.

Waterfords Coach has said that this sophomore class at Waterford is the best he's ever had. Other than Drayer, I'm not seeing it
Re: Eastern @ Waterford
I am curious, have you ever told Jerry Close face-to-face about the personal hard-on you have for him? I've seen you take some shots over the years, but have you ever been man enough to just walk up to him and tell him you think he is a dirtbag coach? Kudos if you have because otherwise, you sound pathetic.Steely Dan wrote:money tree wrote:And for anyone familiar with the history of the margin of victories that Waterford has experienced over the last 10 years, how can you argue that a 30+ point defeat was inevitable when the talent pool shifted. You have been waiting ten years to be able to say, "you got what you deserved"? And ONE game resolved all that for you?
The thing is, while losing certainly stinks and it is hard to remember a time when a Wildcat girls team wasn't a champion, the shoe ISN'T on the other foot. And I haven't heard one person complain about how bad the final score was. You want someone to whine and cry about it like you have for the last decade because for some strange reason that would make you feel better about the past. It is a weird obsession you have and hilariously childish that you posted a personal message, addressing a coach by his first name....on a message board.
I may have missed it, but if you were true to your concern about beatings, wouldn't you have been all over Eastern this season? Outside of Waterford, they are winning by an average of like 60 points per game in the league. They beat a team by something like 82 points. In their case, "they are just that good," but in Waterford's case, "they are poor sports." Is Eastern taking their karma out on the rest of the league too? How tired of those beatings are Southern and Miller and Trimble going to be in ten years?
So, your comments don't "bother" me in the sense that I need to defend Jerry Close. But I do want you to know that I see right through your bogus concern "for the kids" in all your obsessing.

Re: Eastern @ Waterford
You've made this personal, for no reason. I've never made it personal, ever. Go find it, you won't. Only person on this thread with a woody right now is you, getting emotional and challenging me to talk face-to-face with ol' Jerry. Really, why don't you go tell your Mom....... Hard to have a civil conversation face-to-face with someone who you don't respect or philosophically agree with. Nor, would he want to talk. He doesn't give a crap what I have to say.
And really, whine and cry the last decade? Nope. I got critical of your beloved coach, brother, son, husband, or whatever he is after what he did to an overmanned Southern team five years ago. I've left it alone for years. So, you go do your digging, and show me where I've slighted your coach, your program, and your players, repeatedly over the last five years. You can't do it.
When you are on top, life is sunshine, unicorns, and skittle rainbows. When you slip a little and have a well know reputation, you open yourself for some criticism. I've said nothing to disparage anyone on your beloved team, or the program. Show me where I did, and I'll apologize.
And why would I be all over Eastern this season? They didn't score 90 points once, much less 110, now did they? I have know Coach Burdette for years, know how he coaches, and respect how he manages the game. His kids play defense extremely hard, and he slows the game down when it gets out of hand. Seems like your coach has figured that one out as well, finally.
And your last sentence is one of the most uncomprehensible, stupid things that I have read on here in a long time. Hope your rant made you feel better, because that is exactly how it came across.
Funny how people become inflamed when someone makes an off the cuff innocuous statement in which the vast majority of people actually agree (who don't wear rose colored glasses).
If I am such a hater of your program and your coach as you claim, why did I come to your school on multiple occasions to watch them play tough competition, and drive to Pickerington two years in a row to watch them play (and lose)? Bottom line, I have always been a supporter your program, and still am.
It is nothing personal, but you want to make it that way. So be it. Go stew some more.

Re: Eastern @ Waterford
It's not my coach nor my program and I'm not emotional at all. I've noticed your comments in the past, which is why this one struck me as funny. You previous comments may have been immediately following the Southern game. My "ten years" was more a reference to how long Waterford has been competing at the top of the league and if that doesn't match up with the main source of your bone (Southern game), so be it. The point is that it was clear you've been looking forward to some kind of comeuppence and you thought this was it. It wasn't and I just thought you should know that.Steely Dan wrote:You've made this personal, for no reason. I've never made it personal, ever. Go find it, you won't. I'm not surprised you are friends with the Eastern coach because as I said, it is different when it is "your guy". You draw an arbitrary line at scoring 100? Or winning by what? 60? 70? 80? 90? At what point doesn't it really matter anymore? Is an 82-point loss any more embarrassing than a 96-point loss? Is it really some kind of moral victory for the losing team that "they could've scored 100 and didn't"? On this, I'm just trying to understand where you draw lines to justify it in your mind. I don't have a problem in either case because I don't get the feeling that either guy is a big meanie out to ruin other high schools' girls lives (I do know Waterford's coach, though we are not close personal friends).
Now, according to the paper, when Eastern beat Trimble 89-7, Eastern played 8 players in the game. Easy question for an outsider is, don't they have an JV girls to play? Also, they outscored Trimble 19-2 in the 4th quarter. Waterford outscored Southern 23-2 in the 4th quarter of that 110 point game. Four points difference after the game was well out of hand in both cases. Eastern outscored Wahama 17-0 in the 4th quarter the other night. Again, two baskets less of a difference than that infamous Waterford game. So, I am curious as to what you feel was done so drastically different amongst those games (did you attend all of them)?

Re: Eastern @ Waterford
For now, I'm going to leave it at this. You make an accusation of obsessing. Read your post. You are the one who appears fixated with me, and you come and try and start a fight. I go weeks, sometimes months, without saying anything, and when I do comment about this particular team, you seem agitated to the point that you almost appear to become unglued.
I won't even acknowledge your attempt here to split hairs over the margin of victory crap about Eastern's wins and how bad Waterford has taken teams to the woodshed over the last decade. That is an apple and orange comparison. You play the game to prevent your opponent from scoring, which Eastern does exceptionally well, much better than Waterford has over the last 10 years. I applaud good, sound, half court defense. Eastern doesn't press. Jerry Close is notorious for pressing extremely hard up until the point the game is an absolute blowout. Eastern uses a 7-8 girl rotation on varsity period, so they can't afford to, nor obviously, do they need to press.
All of this I do know, whether I go to a damned game or not. And anyone else who knows anything about Eastern and has followed them knows that as well.
John is his own man, he ain't "my boy", we've known each other for years as acquaintances, and the last time I talked to him was October 1, 2013, at the opening of the Nelsonville bypass.
You can gripe and criticize me all you want, I don't care one bit. I'll stick by what I said, what goes around comes around, and it did. Don't think too many outside of H20Ford would argue that, either.

Re: Eastern @ Waterford
Bryan - That is a fantastic write-up of the game, one of the best that I've read in many years. You actually worked in one of the magic "c" words into this write up with "canto". You work in lady "cagers" and "caroms", and you are talking high school basketball "nirvana". Come on, you or Paul ought to be able to whip up at least one write up with the magic three "c's" in it, "canto, caroms, and cagers", LOL! That would truly be old school, and much appreciated by me!!!
Nice work, bdubya!
