Hopefully the Lady Trojans will be in great shape by the first day of practice. That has been seriously lacking in the program for quite a while. I watch several games a year and it strikes me how the opponent is always in better shape than the Lady Trojans.
I think Amy Hughes is a great hire, and I have told her to get her girls in shape. If that happens, great conditioning alone will make the Lady Trojans much more competitive on the scoreboard, and most likely will result in more wins. I know that conditioning is an aspect of basketball that is quite often overlooked and not regarded in high esteem. Lack of conditioning will result in more turnovers, bad shots, more missed layups/FT's, and lazy defense. Great conditioning doesn't take great athletic ability, instead it takes a high level of self-motivation to significantly improve cardiovascular endurance. Basketball is a running sport, and not being able to run up the court on a repeated basis and keep up with the opponent makes a difference on the scoreboard. Lack of conditioning tells me immediately that an individual doesn't want to be a serious basketball player.
I want to see the girls play under Coach Hughes leadership. I know Amy will take care of the X's and O's, so hopefully the girls will show some self-motivation to get themselves in great shape. That will make her job much easier, and make them much better as a team.
Trojans looked a lot better against Wheelersburg. A lot of work still needs to be done, but I seen a lot of improvement from their first scrimmage and their second one. All I can see isthey will continually get better. Once again I'm going to say that the portsmouth point guard is really really tough. When she relaxes and slows down she looked to me pretty much Unstoppable!!!!!!
