D2 RPI

Post by SEFan »

So with the talk on another thread about the strength of schedule and what not, I decided to make a formula based on a teams record and their opponents record. I’m calling it the RPI though it doesn’t work exactly like NCAA’s RPI. I have the formula finished and put into all D2 SE teams. Is this something people would have an interest in? Do you care less? Do want me to calculate D3 and D4 as well?

I'd like an explanation of how you this formula works.
Please.

It’s going to be your winning percentage multiplied by X added together with ALL your opponents winning percentage multiplied by Y.

The reason I want to do this is because though you can “schedule up”, we all know you can do this for 3 games, go 19-3 and say “we won even scheduling up” when in actuality you didn’t. You went 0-3 up and 19-0 against inferior teams. So when you combine all opponents winning percentage together, you get an idea of how tough your schedule actually is. In my eyes, how good you are depends way more on who you are playing and competing against, rather just just a win total.

I agree except for Miami Trace and Fairfield Union jumping both Vinton County and Unioto. Could you imagine if Vinton slid all the way to the 7?

Saying they beefed up their schedule is true, to an extent. They have a top heavy schedule. The rest of their schedule is cake. And a lot of it isn’t their fault, they are playing conference games. But good golly their schedule is weak after the few top heavy teams.

10 days ago I would have argued for Fairfield to be seeded above Vinton, but they had a couple of iffy losses to Logan Elm and Nelsonville.

What's interesting is the FAC and MSL control nine of the 18 votes. We'll see if that comes into play.
