Congratulations to the Portsmouth JHS girls team for a 29-22 win and a sweep over a very good Fairland Dragons squad last night. The win kept the Trojan girls undefeated overall and in first place in the OVC. Coached by Mike Hughes and Amy Hughes, this group of Trojans have a lot of people in the community excited about what could be in a couple of years. A lot of talent will be coming up to PHS soon, and it looks like a good chance that these girls could be challenging for the Final 4 by the 2023-2024 season.
The girls program has Portsmouth has not been a hot topic for a long time, but that is changing with this group. The word is spreading around town.
GO TROJANS!!

After seeing them for the first time a week ago ,I was thinking about starting a thread, glad you did.
This is most definitely a special group with a lot of talent and they actually start 4 7th graders , this group will play 2 years with the Reid girl on varsity " Danny reids daughter" cant think of her first name but she is actually getting talked about as one of the top ten girls in the state as a freshman, you are right about the buzz about this team

Congrats.Just ran across a picture of this team.If thats Coach Mike Hughes they are in great hands. Hes a really Hall of Famer Boys Head Coach from years gone by. He teachs the basics and his teams was and is evidently very sound, fundamental and fun to watch. Hes a great person and you can tell by the players that they become better players and people. Portsmouth girls has a Hall of Fame Coach and just junior high. I will be particularly watching the development of this team in next 4-5 years. I think maybe he Coached in Wheelersburg, South Webster, Green and for some reason didnt he start in Portsmouth maybe.

Doesn’t Portsmouth have a freshman that’s really good like one of the best freshman in the area. Future looks good for the Trojans.

Congratulations to the Portsmouth Junior High Girls basketball team.......UNDEFEATED OVC REGULAR SEASON AND TOURNAMENT CHAMPIONS!!
transplant: I believe the girl you are talking about is in the 8th grade. The junior high starts three 7th graders and two 8th graders. It will probably be 2 years before the PHS high school girls team will really be good. They will join up with Dasia Reid who will be junior by then.
They could make a run to the Final 4 if they can keep them together. Amy and Mike Hughes are very good coaches.
