Re: Portsmouth Lady Trojans 2024-25
The Lady Trojans won their 2nd consecutive district championship on Saturday as they easily defeated the Alexander Spartans 58-24. Alexander had come into the game with a 7 game winning streak, but PHS took command early as JR Sienna Allen hit three 3 balls and had 13 first quarter points. Allen finished the game with 17 points, while SO KeKe Woods chipped in 16. The Lady Trojans pushed their record to 23-1, which ties the best mark in PHS girls basketball history which was set by the 1984 team which finished 23-1. One more win will set the record, and will tie the 1990 and 2012 boys team with 24 wins.
Portsmouth moves on regional play and will face Zoarville Tusky Valley (19-5) on Wednesday at 8:00 @Logan HS. The other semifinal will pit Minford vs. Belmont Union Local, the #1 seed in the East district. The 2 winners will meet on Saturday at 4:00 @ Logan for the regional championship and a trip to the Final 4.
Sienna Allen now has around 20 D1 offers, and she could end up the all time leading scorer in Trojans basketball history. Currently, Kyre Allison it the all time leader with 1,688 points, but Allen has already passed the 1,000 point mark along with teammate SR Daysha Reid. The all time girls leader is Peighton Williams with 1,589 points.

Re: Portsmouth Lady Trojans 2024-25
The Lady Trojans advanced to the D5 regional final as they defeated the Tusky Valley Trojans 48-35 last night @Logan HS. With the win, the Lady Trojans eclipsed a 41 year record by winning their 24th game (24-1), which topped the 1984 Lady Trojans who won 23 games en route to a 23-1 record. The 1985 team went 22-2. One more win will give the Lady Trojans the 2nd highest win total in PHS boys or girls history. The 2012 and 1990 boys teams won 24 games each, while the 1988 boys D2 state championship team holds the top mark with a 27-1 record.
JR Sienna Allen scored 20 points to lead PHS, while Daysha Reid and KeKe Woods chipped in 8 apiece. PHS started out fast, opening up a 10-2 lead, but TV fought back and with a half court made shot at the 2nd quarter buzzer, pulled to within 22-17. In the 3rd quarter, PHS opened up a double digit lead with their trademark defense, and by early in the 4th quarter had expanded the lead to as much as 17. Coach Amy Hughes emptied the bench in the final minutes.
Portsmouth moves on to play Minford Saturday at 4 PM @Logan HS. The Falcons defeated Belmont Union Local 47-30 in the other semifinal. PHS defeated Minford in the District Championship last season. If the Lady Trojans can win this game, they will advance to the Final 4 to face either Fairland or Versailles.

Re: Portsmouth Lady Trojans 2024-25
TrojanDave, I got the winner of Portsmouth vs Minford goes against Canton South vs Norwayne. Fairland vs Versailles goes against Ottawa-Glandorf vs Afrincetric. Portsmouth is the favorite, smothering Defense, overall quickness and speed, Div 1 prospects thru out lineup. Plus the top 2 bench Coachs in the State. Plus1-9 players can go with the best in the State no matter the Division, as Portsmouth has shown, Basketball IQs of each player is outstanding. Go Lady Trojans.

Re: Portsmouth Lady Trojans 2024-25
PrimeTime: The OHSAA tournament program that was put out at Logan HS had the Region 19 winner vs. the Region 20 winner. I initially thought that the semifinal matchups were going to be as you suggested. Portsmouth and Minford are in Region 19, while Fairland and Versailles are in Region 20. Fairland, because of their high seed, chose to go to a different region to avoid playing the Lady Trojans before the Final 4.
Also I heard today that the D5 state semifinals will be at the Convo on March 8. Time TBD.

The OHSAA determines the pairings of state semifinal games by travel. This is why Portsmouth will be playing Fairland in a final four matchup.
Re: Portsmouth Lady Trojans 2024-25
Congrats to the lady trojans on a hard fought win against minford and congrats to Minford on a great season !
Trojans will be heading to the convo next Saturday, not determined on time or opponent. We was thinking Fairland and still might be ,but seems to be some confusion with ohsaa on that. But, I'm really exited to see our girls playing on the CONVO floor!.
Not done yet!!!

Re: Portsmouth Lady Trojans 2024-25
I echo the sentiments of biggdowgg......so proud of our Lady Trojans for going to back to back Final 4's. A salute to the Minford Falcons for making PHS really work for the regional championship. Hoping our girls can bring their suffocating defense to Athens.
With the win last Saturday, the Lady Trojans (25-1) are now the 2nd winningest team in Portsmouth basketball history, boys or girls. The record is 27-1 set by the 1988 D2 boys state champions. Also this will be Coach Amy Hughes third trip to the state. She coached Ironton to the Final 4 in 2005.

Re: Portsmouth Lady Trojans 2024-25
The Lady Trojans took control early in their 63-40 win over the Fairland Lady Dragons last Saturday at the Convo. PHS raced out to a 22-8 lead at the end of the 1st quarter, with Daysha Reid setting the tone with three 3 balls. Then the rest of the 26-1 Lady Trojans joined in the fun, and the margin was an amazing 40-15 at the half against a very good Lady Dragon team. The PHS defense completely stymied the FHS offense, and the Lady Trojans bumped the lead to 60-30 before the bench was emptied. The win was a nice birthday present for Coach Amy Hughes.
Daysha Reid and Sienna Allen tallied 20 points apiece, while KeKe Woods had 10. PHS is now 26-1 on the season, and could tie the 1988 D2 boys state champions, who went 27-1. One more win will give Portsmouth HS it's 5th state title in school history, with the boys winning in 1931, 1961, 1978, and 1988.
With the win, PHS advances to the state championship game vs. Creston Norwayne, who dispatched defending state champion Africentric in the other semifinal. The game will tip at 10:45 on Saturday at UD Arena.
