Host Gallipolis Gallia Academy defeated visiting Athens 41-30 in the season opener for both teams Saturday night in the GAHS gym.
Gallipolis led 13-5, 26-7 and 37-13 at the quartermarks. The Lady Bulldogs outscored Gallia's second unit 17-4 in the final eight minutes.
For GAHS, Allie Troester's 12 markers led the Blue Angels, with eight of her points coming in the first stanza. Rachel Jones added 11, and Amy Noe eight for the winners.
A. Lein paced Athens with 16 markers.

In the preliminary game, GAHS won, 31-26.
The Little Angels and Lady Bulldogs were tied at 8-all after one period. It was 12-12 at halftime. Athens forged ahead, 18-17 after three quarters. GAHS outscored the visitors, 14-8, in the final quarter to post their first win of the year.
Tara Young paced Gallipolis with 10 points. H. Rasier and C. Jackson added seven points apiece.
Ellie Managium led Athens with seven points.
Gallipolis' next game is Monday, at home against River Valley with the reserve game starting at 6 p.m.

Hope things go better for the team this year. Sat about two rows behind them at the Logan game last year and it was a little bit uneasy.
