Re: TVC hocking predictions?
I nominate this thread for dumbest thread of the year So fun to go back and read what the experts said

It's no harm. Federal Hocking and Belpre fans haven't had much to cheer about for any team on any level for awhile. They had a team to get behind this season, and that isn't a bad thing.McChicken wrote: Sun Mar 16, 2025 2:42 pm I nominate this thread for dumbest thread of the year So fun to go back and read what the experts said

Which is fine, but half of the thread was trying to stir up issues that, if they were there, had no impact on the quality of season that Waterford would have.efarns wrote: Sun Mar 16, 2025 7:31 pmIt's no harm. Be happy and excited about your own team, but don’t try to ruin things for others. It shouldn’t be that hard.
Re: TVC hocking predictions?
I think things went pretty much to form. Waterford had some issues early which every program goes through. The difference with Waterford is that they identify those issues and nip them in the bud. Somewhere near mid year, Close could see how things were going, got them corrected and made it possible for the improvement over the second half of the year and into the tournament. I think their seniors were much better in the second half but more than that, I think the play of the other three was much much better. Once again, I think the coaching made a difference in how these three played. If not for the adjustments would they have finished the way they did? You can argue how you want or talk to people from Waterford to let you know what they think on that one.
Belpre was much improved this year and, in my opinion, it started with the coaches. After all is said and done, you would have to say that Close/Hilverding have to be coaches of the year but I think for what they did Cunningham/Cunningham did a tremendous job and may be deserving of some consideration. They had a good start, hit a bad stretch and the coaches got things moving in the right direction again. The difference this year was that they were able to work through some struggles and continue to win games. Outside of maybe one game, I don't think Belpre lost to anyone they shouldn't have. Belpre will be hard to handle in the coming years and I think will be closer to reaching their potential with the staff they have in place. For the league's sake, I hope the Cunninghams stay. I have no idea what will happen at Warren or if they will even have an option their, but they have a chance to build something good in Belpre.
Federal Hocking had a good year but has some humps to get over. I was excited for the up tempo game but after watching the Waterford/Fort Loramie game and a couple of other games this weekend, it seems clear that solid defensive teams typically get over more of those humps than teams that strive to get up 80 shots a game. I think we could sacrifice some personal offensive statistics for a more sound defensive team and have more of a chance in the later rounds of the tournament. Size has always given us problems but other teams seem to be able to handle those issues. Could be biased here, but I do believe the Lancers will be the favorites for next year but that is a ways out so we need to hit the summer running.
Trimble got some good wins on the year and finished over .500 and I look for them to continue to get better. The same is true for Southern. I really thought mid way through the year that they were going to be a big surprise but I think they lost 9 of their last 12. They still were a bit of a surprise but you can see the improvement in Racine. Obviously Eastern struggled. I know people don't want to hear about issues at other schools but Eastern did have some issues and a big change just as the season was starting but they seemed to play hard and hopefully will make some strides over the summer and into next season.
Overall, the Hocking had a very good year. A state Championship and two other teams in the regionals. Even with things watered down with 7 divisions, I will be happy with half of our teams advancing to at least the regionals every year. Best of luck to all of our teams in the coming year.
