RVFAN wrote:I agree with the previous posts........if you can't take it......don't dish it out. So SP fans quit whining!!! I too was at that game, and SP just flat out under-estimated the Raiders!! So in there frustration they decided to get rough, and found out that the Raiders like it rough!!! And they HAD THE ANSWER FOR FLETCHER!!! Foul trouble or not, that is part of the game, and they took her out of the game, she had no choice but to foul, out of frustration!!!! As for the coach grabbing her........ I understand that it SUPPOSEDLY took place as they were shaking hands after the game, so didn't see that. BUT. what I did see was when she leveled Gilmore......she walked over to the bench and was laughing about what she had done. You all call that an athelete!!!! I saw Hagar from RV get tangled with a player from SP and the SP player went dow, what did she do?????? she helped her up, and patted her behind!!!!! That my friend is sportsmanship. Did the coach from RV tell her girls to take Fletcher out???? WHO KNOWS ????? what are you baseing that accusation on......SP players word???? Did u hear her tell them to do that????? I doubt it. Maybe you should get facts before u accuse. As far as the game at SP..... I agree..... won't be close.......Lawrence County officials will see to that!!!!

No the South Point players will see to that.If RV does not come and play their best game of the season it will get ugly fast I can promise you that. And of course when somthing that is unacceptable like screaming and touching an opposing player as a coach the home fans NEVER see it happen.

But its time for all the RV fans to shut up.OK South Point might have under-estimated them but the fact is Rv shot something like 13 more free throws than sp and they still lost by double digits.

Typical reply......in fact I expected it. I don't think that at anytime did I blame the officials for the loss. I DO blame them for letting it get out of hand, but they let them play, on BOTH ends of the court. Isn't funny though tha you don't hear Raiders complaining about it getting rough??? and you would think that they would be, seeing how that would give them an excuse to the loss. No.....they lost that game due to terrible foul shooting, that alone would have BEATEN the Pointers!!! So the way I see it, the Raiders SHOULD have won....... they didn't because they didn't hit their foul shots, not because SP dominated them. Coach Gilmore has turned the program around.....not where it needs to be, but it is getting there, and I wonder who the "whipping child " will be when they do!
Again I have to ask the question.....Did u see Coach Gilmore touch a player from SP?? Did u hear her to tell her girls to take Fletcher out???? If not .....take your own advice and SHUT-UP!!!!! If all you have to go on is a players word, and no other proof, then hold your opinions to yourself!!!! I however DID see Fletcher laugh about taking her daughter out, and I also saw the PUNK in the black hat walking up an down the sidelines on the visiting side of the court, running his mouth, and showing true Lawrence County color!!!! Then after the game he was still being a tough guy..........from across the court, while SP administration stood right there and let him carry on like a punk!!!! I'll hand it to you.......really a classy bunch. I promise you this, you won't see Raider fan do anything like that, we get into the game just like everyone else, but we won't embarrass our atheletes like that!!!! Kind of gives you a little insight as to why their players act like they do!!
My advice to you would be show me some facts........prove to me what you SAY happened is true, and I will say no more, but until then ........ get your team ready.....The Raiders are coming to town!!!!!!!!!!!

And how exactly do you know thats what she was laughing about?

But the fact is South Point won and Rv lost.So have a nice year up there playing for nothing while the pointers are playing for a OVC championship and getting ready for a post season run.I will have everyone from good ole South Point send you a card for the good effort when rv is watching and not playing.I am done with this topic

The refs were crap that's what kept rv in the game when you kill south point momentum with a touch foul over an over it kinda slows them down giving rv a chance to stay in it, the raiders didn't take fletcher out of the game the refs did she played aggressive defense an the refs were all over it she wasn't fouling out of frustration I've seen her play since she was in little leauge she doesn't get frustrated the fouls were in river valleys favor all night the short ref was horrible overturning the other officials calls when he can't even see the play an if you were on the sp side you would of seen the coach jawing at Fletcher, an as far as the kid on sp side he's not a student so the adminstration cant do anything..anyways i can see that no ovc team can handle south points swagger so just chalk it up an look to the next game when rv comes to sp the refs won't matter cause the game will be a run away, like most games then on to the post season

RV FAN, private message me your address and I will mail you a DVD of the segment of the game where your coach is pointing her finger, and yelling in the ear of Kayla Fletcher. Kayla is a very talented player, and a wonderful young lady. When she was facing the bench, she looks to be telling her Coach was just happened, not laughing. Her back is to the camera, but her arms are out to the side. After the game, when your coach grabbed her to talk to her, I am informed that she was explaining herself. That is when the AD's got involved, and Fletcher's father, who RARELY even talks during games became irate. Do not degrade Kayla Fletcher, she is a wonderful young lady, student & athlete just as all of your athletes are. No need to bash the girls.

Unbiased fan –“know that the SP fans don't like to hear this, but the SP girls did play rough, and the refs were horrible but not completely lopsided.”HELLO where were you sitting?? “As for the officiating, 2 of officials were not an issue; it was the shorter official that kept overriding almost EVERY call in RV's favor that caused an issue. Sp couldn't get a shot to fall the refs were horrible I don't see how a ref under the basket can make a call at half court when there's a ref standing at half court who calls a walk an the ref under the basket calls a blocking foul an that's just 1 of the horrible calls he was making all night.” I agree the Officiating was pitiful!!! Unbiased fan -“RV may get their butts kicked in SP. But don't blame it on refs and RV playing rough because it was a close game.”Don’t blame it on the refs… are you serious?? Unbiased fan - “SP just plain overlooked RV. No team should ever do that, no matter how good they are.” Trust and Believe South Point NEVER looked at RV being a problem, However it all comes down to how the game was officiated South Point will take a loss as long as it is a fair called game but when you are playing against 5 plus 3 officials and its obvious the refs are trying to give the game away then its another story!! Best of luck to the Lady Pointers

Seeing how River Valley in the "whipping boy/girl" in the OVC as per RVFAN. Why don't you all do yourselves a favor and get out of the OVC and save you and us some gas money and time! The only thing you can really compete in is cross country and volleyball. All the rest in both boys and girls for most years you are cellar dwellars. Save the other Lawrence County teams the time and money and get in a conferences you can compete it. It is not just SP that has a problem with the refs. Talked to am administrator from the Grove and they had the same problem with the refs for the girls game this week as well!

This post can go on and on and on, and SP fans will cry that the officials was what made the game so close, and that SP didn't play rough, and there PERFECT team made no mistakes.......wait a minute......they aren't perfect........ask Oak Hill. It all comes down to the fact that they totally underestimated the Lady Raiders. The LadyRaiders walked on the floor that night to play a ballgame, SP walked on in hopes to have their JV on the floor after half time, and was greatly surprised. All this hype about the officials........ if you are that good, no game should ever come down to the officiating. Rough???? yeah it was, but as anyone knows that has ever played the game, you do what you can do until you get called for it, and that is what BOTH teams were doing. As far as Fletcher.....I wasn't bashing her. I agree she is a very talented ball player, notice I said ball player, not an athelete, atheletes show sportsmanship, and laughing at an injured player on the floor, that is not sportsmanship. I was sitting right behind their bench, I saw the WHOLE thing, and she was laughing at Gilmore. As for the Raider coach, if in fact that is what she done, then I agree, she needs to be punished, that is a definite no-no. It was her daughter that was injured, and I can see her reason, but as a coach she needs to control her emotions, either be a parent or a coach, you can't do both.
As for us getting in another conference.........why???? You getting worried???? I say we stay right where we are, and keep working our way up, lord knows we can't go much further down, but times ar changing, an I predict that in the not so distant future..... RV will be contending. Laugh if you want makes no difference to me, but there are some class act atheletes at RV, and they have taken their share of beatings, but they are getting better, so get worried, laugh, do what ever turns you on, but quit bashing the kids, their proud of their school, and their administration, and they are don't need people like you on this wbsite bashing them, and calling them cellar dwellers, so grow up, and open your eyes. If you can't be positive then be quiet!!!

You can rank on Kayla and other people can't call it as they see it? Cellar Dwellars PRICELESS! Truth hurts don't it! Seriously SP is usually in the top half of the OVC in every sport and you guys are always in the bottom in both girls and boys. There's exceptions like VBall and cross country. Any yes we do have our down years like this years football
but we are on top and you are on the bottom most of the time. Really do your whole school a favor and get in a conference you can compete it simple. That is the only way you can begin to compete year in and year out. Build from the bottm up don't start in a conference that is way over your heads.

The only think that you have been right about is that this topic could go on forever.

Until you can prove to us that Kayla was laughing at a injured player, then maybe you need to shut your mouth! How can you say that is what she was doing when you were supposively sitting behind the bench, but yet you didn't see your coach yelling at her. I guess you only wanted to see what you wanted to see.

How do you even know what an athlete is when you can't even spell it correctly? Let me explain it for you; the definition of an athlete is: A person possessing the natural or acquired traits, such as strength, agility, and endurance, that are necessary for physical exercise or sports, especially those performed in competitive contexts. Looks to me like Kayla fits in this category!

I am a parent not a student, and I heard RV coach say GET HER, not bet the ball, but GET HER! There is your proof, but if my daughter did tell me that she said it (if I hadn't heard it) I would believe her. Maybe you don't believe the word of your kids, but I do! THe only person bashing anybody on here is you! Not one person has made a comment about the RV players.

Let's not go there with the fans. If I remember correctly the refs had to stop the game and get somebody to shut your student section up. Again a fan came off the bleachers on the floor to yell at the refs. Oh and let's not forget the "sportsmanship" of your great coach!

You let the tables be turned and that had been SP coach that yelled and grabbed one of your players, then I am sure you would want something done about it. I don't care if she grabbed her after the game or not, she still has no business putting her hands on her PERIOD! Now that was CLASSY!!!!OR WAS SHE SHOWING RV's TRUE COLORS? So let's not go there with the insight of why players play like they do, cause you might need to ask yourself the same question.

Nobody said SP was perfect, and yes we got beat by Oak Hill by 6 which has a fantastic team. A team in which, well let's not even go there, because I would hate to see the score if you guys were to ever play them. I mean you lost to Coal Grove!!!!!!!

Our shots were not falling and we played a very sloppy game that is what kept RV in the game. Bring them on SP will be ready!

a few of my thoughts on this thread...
1. been reading this thread for couple days now... i just sit here shaking my head in disbelief at some of the comments.
2. cg has no leg to stand on when talking bout officials... some of worst screwings ive seen in hs basktball have taken place there.
3. poor officaiting... have seen good and bad all over the area.
4. accusations back and forth about poor sportmanship... every school has their fans that qualify... no one school, conference or county has the market cornered.
5. rv has competed in sports other than xc and vb. although not recongized as league champ wrestling is generally top 2. boys basketball has normally been top 3 even though they have been down teh past 3 yrs. also believe softball has been competive.
6. as fans we need to accept the fact that sometimes an underdog is going to play the favorite close and sometimes pull the upset... how often do we read on seop ; "oh, we played bad" or "the refs were horrible". maybe we should give our opponent credit for playing a good game or causing our team to play bad.
7. if the accusations about rv coach are true.... something should be done.

i admit i wasnt at the game but these jmo from what ive read here.
