The other player was a starter but the parent didn't mention her as a key player. PHS played their bench the entire 4th quarter; the Lady Trojans were up 55-15 at one point in final 8 minutes.

Nevertheless, our Lady Trojans have started out very well. Right now I see Brianna Shannon as the most improved player on the team. She scored 17 points in the 2nd half alone, with three 3 balls. While Daysha Reid and Sienna Allen continue to be the leaders of the team, KeKe Woods seems to be everywhere on the court. Steals, fast break buckets, sticky on-ball defense, and add in some assists as well and you have a complete player. Rounding out the starting 5 are KK Mays, a good all around player, and Hayven Carter, who attacks the glass and can score inside or from the perimeter.

Two more games on tap this weekend, with Shaker Heights Laurel and Warrensville Heights. Laurel made the Final 4 last season in D4.
Laurel might still be decent, but their best player (Top 5 Nationally in Jr Class, Saniyah Hall) left to play at Montverde Academy in Florida, which makes it a lot less exciting of a matchup.

Don't look back Trojans, keep focusing on the game ahead, with this year's schedule it's not important to go undefeated it's important to get prepared!

I was sitting with Dave and the Lady did tell him the one started average around 20 ppg and I'm sure they miss her,but I honestly don't think it would have made that big of difference to make up for 30 points, not against the lady Trojan defense especially.

But I was looking forward to a great match up so win or lose,I would have loved to seen Ashland at 100 percent because like mentioned it would have been a good measuring stick .

Best of luck to Ashland and hopefully you those girls back soon

The lady Trojans picked up a good win today at Westerville South playing against a very good shaker heights team by a score of 45 to 40 .

It was a back and forth game with a few lead changers.
Portsmouth struggled a little at the free throw line where they are usually very good . But they did not panic even being down by 3 in the 4th period.

I know shaker heights lost a starter that averaged around 27 PPG but don't let that fool you because this is still a very good shaker heights team that went the the D2 state finals last year ,,WITH NO SENIORS.

Portsmouth added to their bench this year , starting a sophomore and playing two freshman a lot....

Great job lady Trojans and as always stay focused.

Anyone know why they didn’t play today? I went looking for a score and it was taken off the schedule for the event.

School posted yesterday for circumstances out of their control the game wouldn’t be played today. Not sure the exact reason.

Lady Trojans 5-0, including wins over Springfield, Ashland (KY), and Shaker Heights Laurel. PHS is improved from last season, combined with so much experience coming back from a Final 4 appearance. Against Laurel they were in a tight game in the 4th quarter, but kept their composure and came away with a 45-40 win. As biggdowgg said, Laurel didn't have a SR on their roster from their Final 4 team last season. Portsmouth is playing one of the most demanding schedules in the D5 state, including teams outside the SE district, and to add another really good Fairland team in the OVC.

What's exciting going forward is that the Lady Trojans start 3 sophomores, KeKe Woods, Bri Shannon, Hayven Carter. Two freshmen, Salem Allen and Sky Mays are key contributors off the bench. Junior KK Mays is first off the bench.

This Saturday comes a stern test, as top 20 in the USA George Rogers Clark (KY) comes to PHS. Looking forward to that game and seeing the Lady Trojans rise to the occasion and give the visitors a really competitive game.

Correct me if I’m wrong, but I believe Haven Carter is a sophomore starter. KK Mays is one of the first off the bench.

I don't see George Rogers in the MaxPreps or ESPN top 25. What rankings are you looking at? Just curious as they all differ from time to time.

Moses Guthrie: You are correct; my mistake; the 3 starting sophomores are Hayven Carter, Bri Shannon, and KeKe Woods. KK Mays is a junior and first off the bench. I have edited my post above to make that correction. I checked the state tournament program from last season.

dboy: I was told by whom I consider a reliable source that GRC is top 20 in the USA. I will not name this person on this forum. Regardless of how GRC is ranked, it's another tough test for the Lady Trojans.

Was reading a little on GRC ,they finished last season with a 30-5 record, losing to sacred heart academy in the state finals.

GRC is the number 1 team in Kentucky in region 10 where they have made the sweet 16 7 out of the last 8 seasons.

They only lose one starter from last year's team that averaged 67 points per game.
Trojandave is absolutely right ,this will be a very tough test for the lady Trojans.
Be a great game to take in Saturday afternoon at Portsmouth high school.

Looking forward to watching the Lady Trojans take on one of their toughest tests of the season. Good stats, biggdowgg. GRC is a legitimate powerhouse program in KY.

Lady Trojans cruised to an easy win over Coal Grove to raise their record to 6-0, with George Rogers Clark coming into Trojan Arena today, 2:30 tipoff. GRC is rated #1 in Kentucky, while the Lady Trojans are ranked #1 in Ohio D5 and #12 overall all divisions included.

Congratulations to Sienna Allen for passing the 1,000 point mark in her career, and she's only a junior. The current Lady Trojans now have two 1,000 point scorers in school history, Daysha Reid and Sienna Allen.

Lady Trojans remain unbeaten as they top GRC (KY) 42-41 on a game winning free throw from Allen. Believe GRC has a girl committed to Michigan. Tough game, great win for the Trojans!

Jon Jon, you seem to downgrade every win that Portsmouth gets, with an excuse of why the other team didn't win. I would keep your negative thoughts to yourself and maybe Fairland. By the way Portsmouths 6 3 girl didn't play either. I didn't see you post that. Get over the fact Fairland girls is not the Kings of basketball in southern Ohio. Portsmouth girls is No 1 in Division 5 like it or not and they beat the no 1 team in ky and no 20 nationally in USA poll. Even without Portsmouths 6 3 girl not playing. How's that sound instead of making your comments on every Portsmouths victory .

Player going to Michigan being out is not the same as a 5th starter being out no matter how tall they are

There is no poll in which that team is ranked 20 in either. You all need to stop making stuff up

Nextbyoull say that Springfield is undefeated since they played portsmouth

Great win lady Trojans, keep listening to you coaches and on the game ahead.

GRC is a very good team ,even without Michigan girl,I was really hoping she played because I like to see us play against everyone best.

I will say,the stats I posted are true, I read it in black and white myself lol.

SO PROUD OF THE LADY TROJANS ON THEIR WIN OVER A REALLY GOOD GRC TEAM! Our Lady Trojans were gassed at the end; but it didn't take away their heart or desire to win!! Sienna Allen was absolutely clutch on that 2nd FT!! These girls have proven they can win a state title as long they stay healthy. There will be very good teams they will have to beat in the tournament to get to the top of the mountain, but it's doable!! Last year they knocked on the door, this year they want to knock that door down. How far has our girls program come!! From being near the bottom of the SE district to what it is now.......shout out to our hard working girls and coaches Amy and Mike Hughes!!

It's extremely rare in the SE district........in fact I don't know if it's every happened in boys or girls basketball......that a game matched two teams that were ranked #1; PHS #1 in D5 and GRC #1 in Kentucky. Last time I recall a PHS boys or girls basketball team knocking off a #1 team was back in 1980 when the Trojan boys beat #1 26-0 Willard in the 1980 Class AA state semifinals.

Block out all the naysayers and outside noise, Lady Trojans.......keep your eyes on the prize!!

GRC is worthy of their ranking; they have all the pieces to win the Sweet Sixteen this season.
