ATHENS (10-1) VS JACKSON (12-0)
Re: ATHENS (10-1) VS JACKSON (12-0)
49 seconds...same score
Ref just called THE fastest 5 seconds on an inbounds ever. Maybe 3 1/2

GREAT win on the road for the Ironladies, especially after playing such an emotional game just two days ago. I knew Athens and Doseck would give Jackson all they could handle, but the Ironladies are showing that they can win close games against good teams. That's something that will definitely help them once tournament time is here.
13-0. Keep it goin.

This was a much more interesting game that the NC football game. It was 14-0 when this game was over, 21-0 before I got too far from Athens and 28-0 by the time I got home, so going to this game was the right choice.
Very well played game. In my mind it came down to the play of Poe and Ridout in the last quarter. Both played very smart and made it to the 4th quarer with just one foul. Each used one good tactical foul in the 4th. They had fouls to give and were in good position to use them tactically if they needed to. Poe's play in the 4th on the offensive end was big, as was Ridout's on the defensive end. Ridout wouldn't let Doseck penetrate in the 4th like she did in the 1st qtr, making 4/5 on FT. Doseck didn't shoot a FT afer the 1st qtr. She did make 4 treys in the 2nd half with her being reduced to taking trey attempts in the 2nd half. Athens was 5/11 on FT, but just 1/6 in the 2nd half. Jackson was 11/14 on FT, but they missed 2/3 of the front ends of their one and ones, with Poe being 7/8. Doseck's last trey came with 34 sec left and cut the lead to 52-49, but Ridout followed by making both ends of the one and one to get it back to a two possession game with 33 sec left. I thought the foul calls gave Athens a bit of an advantage, but the worst call of the night was the short 5 sec inbound call!

mhs95_06, great summation of the game, but I'm not sure about the foul situation. Until Athens had to foul late in the game, both teams had been called for six total fouls in the game. Unless Jackson's aggressive defense just doesn't ever foul and Athens does, this comment was baseless. It was a well played and well officiated game.

Re: ATHENS (10-1) VS JACKSON (12-0)
I happened to be sitting on the baseline, right behind the official & player, on that 5-second call ... it wasn't short - I was listening to him count out loud (and the player heard him as well) ... now, it may have been quick - but it was counted out loud to five.
I thought the crew did an outstanding job for the most part ... they let the girls play, got most of the calls right, etc... etc ... refs are bound to miss some things, almost all of them do at some point during a game ... but they didn't effect the outcome and they allowed the players to play - and didn't call ticky-tacky fouls - which IMO, is the most important thing.
