If I wanted to take 'candy-from-a-baby' - I would go knock my niece upside the head and take her twizzlers ... lol ... betting on next years football game would not even be fair I think ... we're pretty loaded buddy.

I don't even know what to say about the game ... I'm tickled to death Athens won ... but seeing the Jackson player, with her arms wrapped around her mom crying her eyes out, as we walked toward the door to leave - gave me an entire different view on the situation ... I really felt bad for that young lady!
We'll see what happens. Jackson might be pretty good themselves.

Yeah, that's what kills me too. Seeing the emotion that comes with all the time and effort, all the hard work, hours and hours with your teammates...and then it's all over, just like that. Can't help but feel bad for young athletes who put their heart and soul into the game that they love, but have to experience a night like tonight. That's how it goes, but it certainly doesn't make it any easier.

I usually don't have a problem seeing a boys team lose, I02 ... if Athens beats Chillicothe Thursday night on a halfcourt shot at the buzzer - your probably not gonna get a lot of sympathy from ol 93Bulldog ... lol

But standing by the young lady from Jackson tonight with her mom - that was just heart wrenching for some reason.

I also thought Stanley was a very bright spot for Athens, scoring 15 and defending well against Poe who only scored 2 in the 2nd half.

I thought the dagger after the quirky plays on which Doseck scored 6 points to go from down 3 to up 3(40-37) was the play where Jackson got the offensive rebound then lost their balance and the ball looked like it was going OB, and instead stayed inbounds and rolled half way through the back court, where Lutz was behind everyone, picked it up, took it uncontested to the basket and laid it in to give Athens a 42-37 lead with 1:00 left.

Doseck also scored a deuce in between the two 3 point plays to match Ridout's duece which gave the lead back to Jackson at 37-35. Ridout made another deuce to cut the Jaackson deficit to 43-41. The Doseck was fouled again with 0:16 left, and went to the line and made her 5th FT in a row to go up 3. Jackson had one time out left and decided to use it then to take Doseck off her mark and hopefully not let it get to a two possession game. It didn't work as Doseck drained it again, and when Jenkins made a trey to cut it to 45-44 with 4 sec left, they wished they had the time out as Athens just held the ball without having to throw it in, and time ran out. But the bucket to go up 5 with a minute left was the dagger.

I got to see the replay on channel 15 this afternoon - but I'm not sure I can add a whole lot that hasn't already been said.

Doseck's 'bank' three was big, Olivia Harris picking up the ball at halfcourt and scoring an uncontested lay-up was big as well ... Doseck's three free throws has also been mentioned, and it of course was a factor.

But what hasn't been talked about really is the ATHENS DEFENSE ... holding Jackson to 44 points? very impressive.
Emma Stanley was a big part of that - but so was Brooke kemerer ... her man-to-man defense on Ridout was outstanding, not sure Athens wins that game w/o her.

I think I read earlier about Athens being a '1-player' team ... they were far from that vs Jackson ... every player on the floor contributed in one form or another.

Congrats to Coach Horsley and the Lady Bulldogs on the win. Have to feel bad for Coach Walburn and the Ironladies. Still a great season for Jackson. A shame either team had to lose this one.

Usually I92 has some insight/game analysis/opinions on the game????

I'm sure the emotions over the contest have calmed down a bit, so what did you think I92? or who do you think has the better chance of winning between FFU and Athens?

FU has to beat Athens because they played a tougher schedule....nothing else really matters in basketball matchups.

Seriously though......they need the team effort again on defense and Stanley to repeat her performance. They do that and they will win.

I think Athens will handle Fairfield Union, but you just never know. FU seems to have hit their stride after struggling for 3 quarters against Vinton County.

Stanley and the other complimentary players were outstanding against Jackson. In the end, if Athens plays well on the whole, I think Doseck will make enough plays to get the win. She just does so much...scoring, getting everyone else involved, etc.
