Wasn't there but it sounds like they were able to push the Wagner girl around and keep her away from the basket. I think both teams played with some foul trouble with Dowler and Sury not playing much in the first half. Heard that FF has no plans of making up the second game at Waterford. Can't believe that would be the case. Can anyone confirm? Also heard that the Smithberger girl was hurt but didn't hear if it was ankle or leg.

Waterford did not play well. Offensively they seemed confused. Wagner had a foot on the girl who guarded her and Waterford did not utilize their size advantage at all. Defense was decent but they just could not get an offense going. They looked very similar to their beginning of the year woes. Lots of confusion on plays to run and no one seemed to know what was going on. The second half started with a run from Waterford and they played their style of basketball but then it fell apart again.

Not sure if the second game will be rescheduled. Originally on Waterford's schedule for 2/15. then moved to 2/1. FF plays in the OVAC tournament and doesn't want to play 4 games in so many days.(from what was said on the radio) Tournament play begins soon as well but you would think they will both have first round byes considering they are #1 in their districts. I'm pretty sure Waterford's schedule is full with all the reschedules from the weather. But why not try and make it work. Great matchup heading into tournament play but maybe too physical leading into it? and why not play them earlier in the season and spread out the matchup? This happened a few years ago too. FF lost to Waterford the first round then cancelled the second matchup.

Looked like Smithberger went down with a calf cramp - was stretching and the trainer seemed to be working with her to get her back in the game. she seemed to be favoring it at the end of the game but not sure. Hopefully she is ok. They definitely need that inside game from her.

While FF should have the 1 seed, I would not expect them to take the bye. Historically they like to take the pigtail game and play an extra tournament game. I know both coaches have said in interviews before they prefer to have both their matchups late in the season to help get ready for tournament play. The downside is if one gets canceled it can be hard to find a makeup date that works for both sides. I hope they can find a date that works because it’s a good matchup, but ultimately both these teams have bigger goals.

Fort Frye will take on Wheeling Central Catholic on Saturday 2/8 @ 6pm at the ECO center. Wheeling Central Catholic is the # 1 seed.

Scooter Tolzda has so many wins as a head coach. I wonder what percentage of his losses have come to Liedtke teams?

I believe Coach Tolzda went there in '21 and won his first four against FF. Fort Frye has won the last four so they are even thus far. Prior to that he was with Meadowbrook boys and won against FF but I don't think that was ever against coach Liedtke.

Yep, they would’ve started at Fort Frye and Beallsville right around the same time in the mid-80s.

Right. I'm sure nobody keeps those kinds of records, but Liedtke vs. Tolzda has been a long-running series in Ohio basketball. It would be interesting to see the history.

Lady Cadets with a big win @ St. Mary's last night. Great game to have before the start of the tournament trail. Fort will host Garaway Saturday. Winner of that game will face the winner of Newcomerstown and Shenandoah.

That was a great comeback last night! I think St Mary’s had 20 points less than a minute into the 2nd qtr and then only scored 20 points from there until the end of regulation.

Fort with a win vs Garaway on Saturday. Will take on Shenandoah for the 3rd time Wednesday night at Caldwell high School. Forts the favorite, but Shenandoah has been playing some really good ball the past couple weeks. They are gonna give fort their best. Winner will move on to the divisional final Saturday.

Fort frye beat Shenandoah tonight by 10. They will move on to the district final Saturday at 1:00 p.m. at John Glenn high School and play the Bellaire big reds. Duskey had 19 in Dowler at 10 points to pace the cadets. Big matchup on Saturday Fort the #1 seed and bellaire the #2 seed. Should be a good matchup.
