Reedsville Eastern Lady Eagles
Two questions about Eastern:
(1) I don't see a Fed Hock score anywhere from Monday night (Jan 2nd) ... If anyone has the result, I would appreciate it.
(2) The Eastern/Southern game on Dec. 22nd - I don't have a rescheduled date for that one?
Thanks.

The game will be made up tomorrow. Sorry I don't have a score. Eastern won by 50 or so

Re: Reedsville Eastern Lady Eagles
I have noticed not much talk about girls basketball anymore. With only a few good teams in the area it seems like every game is a blowout. I feel bad for Eastern, Waterford, etc..
Re: Reedsville Eastern Lady Eagles
Yes, agree. In the entire TVC, Hocking and Ohio Divisions, it is Waterford then Eastern, then, well everyone else. Those 2 teams blow everyone else out. The battle in the Hocking will be between these 2 teams for 1st. Then, the battle for 3rd. Which will be between S. Gal and Belpre. In the Ohio Division it looks like Vinton or Wellston. Athens could possibly get it as well. Good Luck to all the TVC teams.

Re: Reedsville Eastern Lady Eagles
Waterford and Eastern should send their JVs to play in their conference games and have their varsity go play teams that will challenge them. Waterford and Eastern play teams like Southern and Fed Hock and dont even play hard because they are up by 40 at halftime. They stand no chance in the tournament because they arent used to playing hard for 32 minutes its a huge disadvantage. I am sure the other TVC schools wouldnt mind if they dismissed Eastern and Waterford for the next few years from the league schedule and allowed them to play 20 non league games against teams that will actually challenge them. Its a joke, I feel bad for those girls who only get one chance to play high school basketball and only play 12/14 minutes a game and have to limit what htey do because the other temas are helpless

Re: Reedsville Eastern Lady Eagles
It would be interesting to have what's called 'floating' divisional allignment ... They talked about doing it in MLB a few years back to make for better competitive balance ... To send Waterford and Eastern girls to the Ohio THIS YEAR - and having Alexander & Meigs move to the Hocking would have actually made a lot of sense ... The TVC Ohio only plays 10 league games - that free's up 10 non-league games which would have given Waterford & Eastern the freedom to schedule tough opponents ... Not to mention Athens, VC, NY & Wellston would probably give both teams a little run-for-their-money ... I would predict an Eastern/Waterford win versus any of the Ohio teams - but not by 30+ points that's for sure.

Re: Reedsville Eastern Lady Eagles
I am sorry to tell you but they would beat those 4 teams, Athens, VC, NY & Wellston by 30 plus as well. As bigshooter said the starters are only playing 12/14 minutes now. I have seen both of these teams play and Burdette, Drayer & Brown all 3 were in games in the 4th qtr up by 40 +. Sure hope nothing happens to any of them. I would have a hard time as a coach having them in the 4th. But what do you do? They want to play too. And, the coaches have already limited them to usually only playing half of each qtr to that point. They would beat every team in either league by as many as they wanted. Sad but true! These 2 programs have had strong Varsity programs for several years now. If I were both of them I would have already looked to change leagues. Yes geographically this makes sense but they are not prepared enough to make runs at State Titles. They each get 2-4 challenges a year. And thats against each other then maybe 1-2 non league games. Last night Burdette scored 35 on Belpre and maybe played half the game. Scored at will. And Belpre is the 3rd best team in the Hocking? Flowers had 18 for Belpre and was the only glimmer of light and probably played 3 qtrs. It always seems to be everyone notices the ones that score. But the difference between Waterford and Eastern and then everyone else is the supporting cast. Eastern and Waterford both have great ROLL players. Other girls that can put up 8-16 pts every night. Pull down 8-12 rebounds every night. AND, they know their roll. I could ramble all day. I think everyone sees the same things. They are in a class of their own in the TVC.

Re: Reedsville Eastern Lady Eagles
I agree that Eastern and Waterford are the two best teams in the TVC - by far ... And I love watching them play ... But I'm not totally sold on Eastern or Waterford beating Athens or Vinton County by 30 ... Athens has it own dynamic freshman PG that is at least quick enough - and tall enough - to stay in front of Jenna and would make her work to score points ... Athens has two 6-foot forwards that just stay in the paint on defense and make it very tough for teams to score inside. Vinton County has a similar set-up in the front court with 6-foot Catitlyn Owings and 5-foot-11 Xan Hale and they too have young quick guards that are better than the players Eastern and Waterford are seeing in the Hocking. Its hard to compare and say this team would beat that team and by this many points - but the only time I seen Eastern and Athens share the floor this year was at Nelsonville-York for a 2-quarter scrimmage (preview) and Athens ended up winning. That doesn't say a whole lot considering it was only a preview - and I'm sure Eastern would win a regular season match-up - I just don't think it would by 30 points that's all. Athens and VC aren't some small TVC hocking school with players under 5-foot-7 - they are big, athletic and would at least put up a fight and keep the games somewhat close for awhile IMO.
If Jenna was hot from the outside and knocking down threes in the game - Eastern would probably beat Athens or VC by 16-20 points. (Ive seen her catch fire and she is just that good.)
If Athens and VC defended the perimeter well and she wasn't able to get hot from the outside - it would be more like a 10-12 point win.
If Waterford was able to get out and run, force turnovers and Drayer AND Brown are knocking down shots - Waterford wins by 18+
If Athens/VC was able to dictate tempo and slow the game way down - Waterford still wins by 10-15 pts.

Re: Reedsville Eastern Lady Eagles
I don't think there's a player out there who can keep Burdette from getting to the hole. If she isn't the player of the year this year there is something wrong. I think she will single handedly beat Waterford in the next matchup. I don't think eastern or Waterford would beat Athens by 30 but I do think they would beat them. They should make eastern and Waterford tvc champions before the year and fill their schedules with tough non league games and say here you go go win us a state title. Bc I think with the amount of talent that both of these teams have if they were able to play good teams week in and week out their would be some serious tournament runs. Especially with harvest prep being ineligible this year. I'm really glad eastern plays tri village right before they take on Waterford bc that will be am excellent tune up going into the tvc championship game.
Re: Reedsville Eastern Lady Eagles
It is a shame that they both can't make runs. Coming out of the same district stinks for them. They have both been top 8 teams the last few years but only 1 can move on. Schools this size with programs like they have had is very rare. AND, they are not transfer students like some un-named schools. These are kids who's parents went there to school or atleast older siblings. There are Drayers and Browns going thru Waterford every couple of years. Very nice to see a small SE Ohio team make runs. Good Luck to both.
Re: Reedsville Eastern Lady Eagles
I hope the match up between Eastern and Waterford is as great as everyone is saying on this page. It seems to me that everyone thinks when the other teams in the Hocking Division have a game against one of the two teams they should stay at home since they are no challange for them.
Just remember that some of these teams are very young and are playing 9th and 10th graders with no upper classman on the team. Every school has its years when they have good teams and years when they don't.
The Eastern team has some very good players and I know some of them. They are a nice group of young ladies. But what does it look like for them in the future? How good are the teams in Junior High? Are these young ladies going to be another Burdette? Will Waterford have another Drayer or Brown?

Re: Reedsville Eastern Lady Eagles
Well, most of Eastern's talent is in the sophomore class so there is two more years, and there is talent at the junior high level, a few post players and a couple good guards who could develop into very good players. The Pullins girl obviously stands out at the jh level. I feel that the Eagles will be dominant at least until 2017, and will be unstoppable in 2013-2014

Well there aren't many Burdettes come thru this area very often. AND she is only a Soph as well. So we know they are going to be good atleast a couple more years. Waterford, yea they lose a Brown. Drayer is a Junior and yes there is another Brown. Looks just like this one. She sees limited time now as a frosh and it is in their blood. She will be good as well if she continues to work hard and play in the off season like Emily. AAU is the key. Wanna be good? Play AAU in the off season. Look at the stars in the Hocking. I mean the ones that really stand out. They all play in the off season. Whether it be for The Thunder or The Express or who ever. They are out busting their butts in the off season. Go to TVC site and click on top scorers for the year. 9 of the 1st 11 spots are takin up by AAU girls. The other 2 may play as well. I just don't know them well. Brown, Drayer (took this year off AAU), Crawford, Flowers and Burdette. ALL worked hard this off season.
Back to the point, no one is going to touch those 2 teams. But I hope the fans don't stay home. Support these young ladies. They work hard.
