great measuring stick game. Riverdale ranked any many polls throughout the state. Oaks have to step it up and play a great fundamental game.

The Telegram News website says something to the affect that:

Riverdale won the game at the foul line, making 27 of 42 charity tosses while Oak Hill meshed 8 of 11.

From a school that get players from all over and now your going to complain about the fouls called. Chances are the officials you had don't really know you so you didn't get away with your fouling as you to in the league. Take the loss and move on.

i didnt see any1 from oak hill saying they got beat because of the foul shots
and by the way just because your team sucks dont take it out on someone else!!!! looks like you are the one complaining. and another thing waterford is probably the only team from the tvc that would have a winning record in the soc

kinda what i was thinking. the poster wasnt implying or saying why that is why they lost, just quoting a newspaper. i sense a little oak hill envy from athens.

I missed the game :( and when I tried to ask how it went all I basically got was "Oak Hill lost, refs were horrible". (clarify, I am NOT saying the refs were bad, I wasn't there) Can anyone give me a little more about the game? How did people play that kind of thing, without bashing either team?

BASKETBALL: Lady Oaks suffer first loss

PICKERINGTON -- The Oak Hill Lady Oaks suffered not only their first loss of the 2008-09 girls basketball season on Saturday, but they also suffered their first-ever loss at the all-Ohio Girls Prep Shootout at Pickerington Central High School since their first appearance seven years ago.

The Lady Oaks fell 63-54 to the undefeated Riverdale Lady Falcons.

“We didn’t play well early,” said a dejected Oak Hill head coach Doug Hale. “We tried to force too much against their pressure defense. We turned the ball over too many times and they made us pay for our mistakes.” By game’s end, the Lady Oaks had turned the ball over 25 times, more than twice their season average per game.

It equaled the number of rebounds they had, which was one less carom than the Lady Falcons, which had 18 turnovers of their own.

Despite the disparity in turnovers, that was not the deciding factor in the outcome.

Oak Hill would finish the game with three more field goals than its opponent (21-18) and made two more treys (4-2).

The difference came at the charity line, where the Lady Falcons were 27-of-42 ( 64.2-percent ) while the Lady Oaks were just 8-of-11 (72.7-percent )

Oak Hill found itself in a 5-0 hole just over two minutes into the game when it turned the ball over on four of its first five possessions.

Karissa Adkins ended the scoring drought with a layup at the 5:16 mark of the period.

The Lady Oaks eventually put together a 6-0 run and took a short lived 6-5 lead after Breanna Butler hit a short jumper off the baseline.

But Riverdale answered with four straight points to regain the lead.

Oak Hill would get as close as a single point at 9-8 with 3:38 left, but the Lady Falcons closed the stanza with an 8-6 edge to lead 17-14 after one period.

The second period was a see-saw battle as the two teams traded the lead four times.

Rebecca Puckett hit back-to-back layups to put Oak Hill on top 24-21.

After Amy Fox hit a pair of free throws to make it 24-23, Oak Hill scored four straight to take its largest lead of the game.

However, the Lady Oaks missed their last three attempts of the quarter, and Riverdale scored the final six of the period to trail by a single point (28-27) at the half.

Following the break, the lead changed hands three times in the early going of the second half.

Riverdale regained the lead at the 5:36 mark of the stanza, and other than a pair of ties at 32-32 and 38-38, retained the advantage throughout the last five-plus minutes of the third period.

That included taking a 39-38 lead into the final eight minutes.

Butler and Lakin Caudill opened the fourth period with back-to-back layups to forge the Lady Oaks into the lead, but Fox hit the first Lady Falcon trifecta of the game.

She then hit the first of 14 free throws over the final 6:15 of the quarter, giving Riverdale a lead it would not lose.

Oak Hill was within two of the Lady Falcons at the 5:37 and 5:03 marks of the fourth after layups by Butler, but after Butler scored on an inbounds play with 5:03 to play, Kayla Brown hit the second trey out of the corner, opening the lead to five at 51-46.

A pair of tosses from each team kept the lead at five, then after Oak Hill missed a chance to trim the deficit back to five after missing the front end of a one-and-one, Riverdale hit 3-of-4 chances from the stripe to stretch the advantage to 56-48.

But Butler cut it back to five with a three from the corner with 1:26 to play.

Ashley Fox split a pair of tosses to take the lead to six, then Mikie Strite cut it to four with a pair of tosses with 1:04 showing.

Following a turnover, Taylor Hale split a pair of free throws to make it a three-point game, but on the next Lady Falcon possession, an intentional foul, was called on Oak Hill, and Ashley Fox hit both tosses to take the lead to 59-54.

They converted on two more tosses after a foul on the ensuing inbounds play, and four more over the final 30 plus-seconds after Oak Hill misses and fouls, sealing the win.

Butler was the only Lady Oaks’ player to finish in double figures with 14 points.

Caudill just missed with nine markers, while Puckett, Strite and Adkins all finished with eight points apiece.

Brown led the Lady Falcons and all scorers with 24 points, while Lacey Kessler and Amy Fox added 14 and 12 points respectively.

The Lady Oaks return to the road, and return to Southern Ohio Conference Division II action, when they travel to Northwest on Wednesday night for a league makeup game.
