She must be in Kentucky if she is "playing with the high school team." That's against the rules in Ohio.

Yep, that's an OHSAA violation straight out, even in the summer a non-high school student cannot compete with the High School team.

Not at all during summer ball this is straight from the OHSAA website.
The Summer’s Most Common Question
More than any other question, we are asked if ‘8th graders can play on a JV/Varsity team during the summer at a team tournament, shootout, etc.’. The answer is YES. Any of the hundreds of events that take place in the summer (or ANY time outside the season) are NOT school athletic contests that we regulate. So, we do not regulate ‘who plays with who’ at these events. Only during the actual season of play do we prohibit 7-8 graders from practicing or playing with 9-12 players. Ditto with ‘transfer students’. Though more and more schools will only permit students enrolled in their school to participate in ‘summer events’, we have no jurisdiction over that – thus there is no violation of any regulation if a transfer student plays with your ‘team’ during the summer months.

He didn't say she was competing with High School players.
There is no violation of any sort of a girl of any grade to go to the gym and shoot around or play with older students, OHSAA doesn't regulate who you can associate with during the summer for crying out loud.
If the girl wants to head to the gym and shoot around or get in a pick-up game with older students then that is completely fine.
Get a clue.

"Playing with the high school team". Is an inference to just that. And yes, the OHSAA does legislate summers, and a non high school student cannot compete with the high school team.

Can Middle School Players participate in Open Gyms at the High School level?
Answer: Yes. OHSAA Bylaws and Sports Regulations do not prevent anyone from participating in Open Gyms.
Pretty clear language, that is unless you struggle with plain English.

No they cannot. This is what I was referring to above. Open gyms are one thing, summer leagues and shootouts are another.

The key word here is "compete", meaning shootouts and summer leagues. Looks like you are having the comprehension problem. Speaking of girls basketball is this the year Wellston finishes higher than last?

Read the OHSAA rulebook. They specifically state that they do not govern summer activities.
Can Middle School Players participate in Open Gyms at the High School level?
Answer: Yes. OHSAA Bylaws and Sports Regulations do not prevent anyone from participating in Open Gyms.
Can Middle School aged players participate with High School aged players in summer ‘team camps’ and ‘shootouts’?
Answer: Yes. Just as above, the OHSAA Regulations that prohibit 7-8 graders from participating with 9-12 graders is only in effect during the
season of play. This is not to be taken as an encouragement to do so, however, our regulations do not prohibit it. Summer events or off-season
events are not considered interscholastic contests by the OHSAA.
That is word for word off of the OHSAA Rebounders Report which is put out by Assistant Commissioner Jerry Snodgrass.

Don't mind Pol Pot, those ole administrator types still think they know everything...just the way he is wired. Even if there isn't any electricity in the wires. Once a know it all always a know it all that one is.

Has anyone seen her play this season? Just curious how she's doing. I would think being that big in junior high she would be a force inside?

Lots of tall players around , prob best not to hype a 7th grader unless you tread pretty lightly.

I have actually only seen her play a few times and she looked really awkward to me. I didn't see a great deal of ability, so no hype from me. Just curious if she has improved any.

Awkward is to be expected at that age. Depends on how she mentally develops over the next couple years.

a lot of driveway practice in the off season could help.....if the right person is showing her. She doesn't need to practice where she has the advantage now but what will help when she meets someone her size. The advantage she has now will come easy if she looks to the future.
