Cook- South Webster. Nearly averaging a triple double. 90th ranked player in the Nation. Enough said.

SOC1
Not real sure...

that 90th ranked player only had 2 field goals the first time she played Oak Hill and they didn't come until half-way through the 4th quarter.

That's one game against in which ONE outstanding player can't beat ONE entire team of great players. It's also a game in which she was also hurt. Don't base a half season on one matchup. And don't bash a great player for such an honor she has worked her entire life for.

i thought it made more sense to go to a player off of the league champion's team

SOC I - Missy Buckley or Alyssa Raines from NB

SOC II - Kayla Cook from SW

If she was really that good, she would also make the other players around her better, or at least strive to be better. One player can't do it on their own, sure, but she has other teamates who aren't bad, they just aren't as good as her. Number 12 (I think) is a pretty good shooter too but because Cook is on the team, she doesn't look as good. Know what I'm sayin?

It usually does, but keep in mind this is a topic about Mid-Season POY, so right now there's no league champion (although obviously we all know who that league champion will be...)

As for the post about Cook making her teammates strive to be better, that's one of her biggest goals as a senior captain for her team- just ask her yourself. I understand that no player is going to stand out on the team more than Cook, but no player on that team is nearly as gifted in the game of basketball as her, and she can't help that. She's a senior, so she's going to do whatever she needs to do to help her team have a chance at winning ball games. On the other hand, Freshman Kaci Messer has been stepping up BIG the past few games, and when the Lady Jeeps had a couple of key players leave the team earlier this season, you can bet money that Cook was a HUGE part of what kept that team from falling apart.

I believe it should be co-players of the year Rebecca Puckett and Karissa Adkins.

I disagree that it should go to the league champion every year. This year it should though. The closest any team has come to Oak Hill has been 27 points. Every other game has been over 35 points. In most of those games they have led by 40+ upon entering the 4th quarter. In each of those games Karissa Adkins and Puckett have been the leaders whether it be in points, rebounds or assists. I think you have to give it to two seniors on maybe the best girls team in the SOC ever(and there have been some very good ones in the past)

Not always. They only beat Ironton by two, South Point by 6 i think, and St Joe by 15ish. Lets not forget the Sophmore Trio of Hale, Butler, and Caudill (who doesnt start BTW) have had big games as well and were leading scorers in different games. If youre going purely on stats, Cook hands down. It shouldnt be up to her to carry her teammates. JMO

I am talking about SOC games which is what this honor is based upon. None of those games that you mentioned are in the SOC.

You are saying that by having those other girls they are a great team. We agree. I think too often people think that Oak Hill shouldn't have the POY because they are such a complete team with different people stepping up. I don't think that Oak Hill players should be left out of the award just because they have a better team.

Dont get me wrong Adkins an Puckett are VERY VERY good players But the BEST PLAYER on Oak Hills team (an this is jmo from the games that ive seen) is Lakin Caudill hands down. But my vote for the POY would have to goto Kayla Cook

I myself think that she should start but who am I, But one thing is for sure It has to be nice to have a player like her to come off the bench an score 20 or so :-) By the time she is a Senior EVERYONE will be talkn about her playing.

until anyone can say that it has to be proven. Caudill hasn't proven she is the best this year in my opinion. Yeah maybe leading scorer 3 or 4 games but if she was starting nobody would think she was that much better. She gets just as much playing time as all the starters or more. I agree with leaving minfords posts. The majority of the games have been led by Puckett and adkins all season long

Oh please. Don't hate on her. By stating that, you're making her out to be an awful player, and person: something she's DEFINITELY NOT. She's done nothing wrong to you, or the whole Oak Hill program. In fact, she's played with a couple of your players for the past few years in AAU ball and has became good friends with them, so respect her.

wow! You really blew that out of proportion! Not hating her one little bit, and I'm sure she is a great girl and athlete, I just havent seen alot from her this year, but one girl can't do it all!! So by you saying that you would not trade cook for any other player in the SOC..does that mean you hate every other player in the SOC??? Same thing buddy!! With that said... I still would not trade one lady oak for cook or any other player in the SOC..
