That Athens/Warren should be a good game.

Athens four best players aren't playing. Gonna be a long year for McNeal if they don't play
Heard Warren is up 31-12 at half

I hate to hear that. It is very difficult to build a program with low numbers. Hopefully that will improve in the future.

Who are the 4? I only know about Gilkey. Why didn't those girls go out? I read that J. Stone moved out of the district.

I have a feeling that on top of all the time needed to practice + play b-ball and taking care of their school work that doing 20 hrs of community service wasn't something that they were interested in. Just curious if any teams besides the Athens girls have this as a requirement to play their sport?

Yea, I don't really see the correlation between playing a sport and being required to do community service.

I think it is the difference between having the goal of developing good ball players and developing good overall people. Take the athlete out of their small world of athletics to see the whole picture. A nice holistic approach. I think it's a great idea. Some of these big fish in a small pond high school athletes can really develop an oversize ego. This is good for no one. Now, with that said, don't read too much into that, for I am speaking in general and not with anyone one person in mind.

Usually a real issue in Girls basketball where we see such a sense of entitlement and special treatment.

Really, it's a problem in any sport. But in rural areas, adults really put a lot of stock in these young athletes, as if they are destined for national greatness and beyond. I have witnessed literal interruptions of the school day for an athlete to give autographs! (This was not a female). I say keep them humble!

Requirement?
How about asking, or arranging a day to do it and see how many - or who - shows up. We require and demand a lot of from the high school athlete already, how does adding something else going to truly help? I'd be more inclined to see who shows up, I'd get a better idea of their true character that way then "requiring" them to do something.
But again, I don't really see the correlation. School, grades, discipline, athletics are one entity - outside community service is something completely different. Does a coach say "you have to be at practice on time, practice hard, pass all your classes, show sportsmanship at all times - and oh yea, btw - we have to go to pick up trash along the road next Saturday?"
I'm sorry, that just seems odd to me.

Don't care for the community work either.
