All Pike county schools have canceled for today, no word on their games yet.

I can't remember the policy. But I thinking that games can and are sometimes still played on days when school has been cancelled. Am I correct?

Waverly vs Burg is cancelled.

Georgetown at Eastern Brown is cancelled. Make-up date is January 4th, 2:00pm

North Adams at Whiteoak postponed. Rescheduled for Wednesday February 5th.

Lynchburg @ West Union posponed. No make up date announced yet.

Clay @ Western.
Canceled for tonight.

No make up date yet.

Miller @ Wahama cancelled

Postponed = game will be made up.
Cancelled = game will not be played.

Valley at Minford still on for tonight

Notre Dame @ Eastern cancelled No make up date yet

You're splitting hairs here Mark, & MHS.

When school is canceled does that mean it can't be made up at a later date if needed?

We all know most of these games will be made up if at all possible.

Because so many people have butchered the use of "cancel" it has lost its meaning, so now when a game, or other event, is termed "canceled" you don't know whether it is canceled or postponed. My "splitting hairs" is an effort to get people to realize the difference so hopefully more people will communicate what they really mean. I will grant that this time of the season, games are probably really postponed. But late in the season, saying it is canceled gives no information other than they are not playing that night. Using the word "cancel" when it will be re-scheduled, or is not known if it will be re-scheduled, only adds confusion!

Furthermore, we're not discussing school cancellations. We know the policies in regards to calamity days as they are laid out in advance. Since basketball schedules are more dynamic and ever changing, setting a make up date is much more challenging.

ND at Eastern was postponed, wiped out, snowed out, iced out , delayed , cancelled , crossed off , put off , deferred , suspended , discontinued , Heck, I even it was officially prorogued . that ought to clear everything up.

Really , arguing over cancelled vs postponed ? Would'nt we be safe assuming all " cancelled " games in mid december will be made up ? and the huge majority are league games that must be made up. darn english majors .
