Their style of play is taylored for Regional and State atmosphere. The physicality of Waterford proved the difference in Our(Peebles) game yesterday. Our girls are not used to that kind of a game. Good luck Waterford.

They definitely play that NWO style. They might be outmatched this year to win state but their two best players are juniors. Hopefully they make my post look dumb

I hope they can .their coach has been there before so he knows what it takes. That means alot. Getting there multiple time give you instant cred in the tourney. I've seen that in my 50 years of enjoying high school basketball.

Bring it home Waterford-- How about 2 TVC being State Champs??????????

The answer is no.
However there losses are twice apiece to Warren and ff.
Marietta and Trimble on a buzzer beater.
They look different from earlier in the season.
Bench players really stepped up

I doubt anyone thought state was possible. Something must have started clicking after the Fort Frye game. Waterford then beat Trimble and Alexander

Just depends when you ask that question. Until the end of the season, no. Most of the year they played only two quarters solid. They played Trimble very well away in a loss playing sound in three quarters. Probably the best they played up to that point. However the wins over Alexander and Trimble at the end of the season gave these girls confidence going into the tourney and enabled them to finally start buying in 100% with the coaches. So at that point I would say they had a very good chance of winning the region. Then just a trickle effect of adding more confidence from win after win in the tourney. What’s fascinating also is the mental side of what these kids would hear from some folks comparing them to the Ali Kern/Megan Ball teams after they graduated. How would you appreciate and deal with hearing they should be as good as them? The expectation of that would be at the very least stressful for a teenager. Also for someone on here named “negative nelly” saying after the Minster loss in 2018 this would be the downward fall of the program and also taking some stabs at the coaches. I would like to say thank you for that. Those statements make coaches work harder and motivates them more. The other asset of Jerry Close and Todd Hilverding is they establish relationships with their players very well. Some coaches really struggle with this. It isn’t easy but they realize that positive relationships help on court performance. Kids will work harder for you if you show them you care.

True observation, but I don't agree with your conclusion. Waterford has been consistently strong. Trimble and Eastern had a couple of talented groups come through the pipeline.

But, as conferences go. there are plenty of pedestrian programs in that pack, as well.

“I’ve never had a team improve as much from the beginning of the season to the end of the season as this group has and I’ve told them that a million times,” said Waterford head coach Jerry Close. “What a great, gutty effort by these kids.”
