OHSAA Division II Final 4 - Fairland Lady Dragons (26-1) v. Laurel Gators (18-10)
The Lady Dragons are headed to Dayton and will face off against The Laurel School from Shaker Heights next Friday morning at UD Arena at 11 am.
Laurel is a bit of a Cinderella story, the 10 seed having beaten Bedford, Bard, Canton South, West Branch, Gilmour Academy, and Streetsboro to earn their place in Dayton.
The Gators have played some great basketball and obviously have some talent (a 10 seed in the Final 4 is nothing to take lightly) but it doesn't look like the Lady Dragons are taking their foot off the gas until they are cutting down the nets on Saturday evening.
Best of luck to Coach Buch and those girls in green and white - you continue to make Rome Township and Proctorville very proud of you!

Laurel is led by top 5 ranked sophomore in the country Saniyah Hall. Very good player, who is around 6’2 and can handle the ball and moves well. I believe she scored 40+ at the Classic in the Country vs Anthony Wayne. Doesn’t appear she has much help however.

Hall is awesome and it should be fun to see how Coach Buchanan and his staff gameplan against her
This is definitely a winable game for the Dragons

Congratulations to the Lady Dragons on their regional title, and now back to back Final 4 appearances.
Just to add for those that didn't know, the Portsmouth Lady Trojans defeated Shaker Heights Laurel 46-38 in the regular season.
The Lady Dragons have a great opportunity to advance to the championship game. Go Dragons!! Go OVC!!

Good luck Lady Dragons.

There were two starters out for Shaker Heights when Portsmouth beat them with one being their second leading scorer. I wouldn’t base what Portsmouth did against them on how this game may be played out. It’s a different team than what Portsmouth played.trojandave wrote: ↑Sat Mar 09, 2024 10:12 am Congratulations to the Lady Dragons on their regional title, and now back to back Final 4 appearances.

JonJon: Thanks for the info on Shaker Heights. Still think the Lady Dragons have a great chance to make the championship game.

Laurel stats of note.
Hall (So) 43% of teams scoring on the year
Williams (So) 23%
So 2/3rds of the teams scoring by 2 players.
Hall also leads the team in Rebounds, Assists, Steals & Blocks.

I am not sure I can tolerate listening to these commentators... We have a number of broadcasting teams that are better than what the OHSAA is giving us..

Hall is remarkable. Fairland is playing really solid D on her and she’s scoring at will

Any UpDates? I cannot believe more support is not being shown for FHS final 4 achievement! I did see clips a laurel soph standout & she looked fierce.
Would love to see updates of score.

Bailey Russell misses a free throw that would have put it into overtime. 53-52 final.
