Undefeated and on top of that MaxPreps list for whatever that's worth.

The Max Prep list is entire Division I believe. It is computer generated so wrong results or incomplete results can make it off. With that being said, IMHO Marietta is the best girls team in SEO regardless of division.

Marietta is currently #1 in the rankings for Division III but they are not the best team. Purcell Marion by a wide margin.
I don't think they are the top DIII team in SEO - Unioto is better than them and they should meet in the tournament to prove that so I think District Semi Finals is the ceiling for them.
They also play DV Fairland late and I would expect that to be a comfortable win for the Dragons.
I don't think they are the best team in Washington county.
Are they top five in SEO? I might go along with that but with Unioto, Fairland, Portsmouth, Waterford all better than them they would have to be a fringe top five team. By end of the year, I think Sheridan (who I have not seen) would have an argument.
They are a good team and they play an easy schedule so they will have a lot of wins by wide margins but I would not expect a long tournament run.

Marietta is good!
I know it doesn’t count for everything But
Waterford beat Unioto by 5
Waterford beat Belpre by 7
Fort Frye beat Belpre by 8
Marietta beat Fort Frye by 9

Fanatic, that's all the math I needed.
Oh yes, Purcell-Marian is lightyears ahead of the rest in that division.

People posting because they KNOW something. Mostly, no you don't. You may be proven eventually right some day but there has not been enough basketball to know much. Marietta is very skilled. We all need more games to determine just how good they and the other teams mentioned on this thread are.

What a strange response Ham. People post a list of teams they "know" are better than someone else with very few games and almost no head-to-head matchups. My point is that statements like what was posted earlier are disrespectful to the field of teams competing and trying to prove themselves. If someone is going to make definitive statements like that they should take the time to explain why; e.g.
"I've seen all of these teams several times and I'd rank them this way due to these factors..."
-- Otherwise the condescending attitude is someone else, who make assertions with little or no evidence. This is a discussion forum -- more information and discussion would be helpful, that's all.

Anybody want to discuss Marietta's potential for making the Final Four? Winning it all?

They have a not particularly easy road to even get out of the district. Might want to do that first as Sheridan is no pushover.

No pushover is an understatement. Sheridan handed Waterford their only loss this year at time of writing.

Marietta is VERY GOOD. The guard and post player are elite. Pounded a good Fairland team. Marietta vs Portsmouth would be interesting.

The Tigers are good. But I don’t think they’re the best team in southeast Ohio. You have to look at their league. Them-Waterford -Fort Frye - Warren don’t have a very strong conference. Waterford schedules games that are difficult and typically preparation for a tournament run. They play teams like Sheridan Canal Winchester Tusky Valley Unioto. coach Close is probably one of the most brilliant coaches when it comes to a schedule. Since 2021 he has had one of the tougher schedules for a small school. And remember Waterford only graduates around 50 kids. They are not very big. Marietta and Waterford matching up on Tuesday will probably be the game of the year in the state of Ohio. Not only because of their proximity, but also because of their records. Waterford is 20-1 with their only loss coming from a Sheridan who really definitely played one of their best games against the Wildcats. After watching that game, Coach Close made some changes And they’ve been dominant ever since. As for Marietta, I don’t know if they have had the schedule to prepare them for the tournament. They also are without one of their better players who has to sit out due to the transfer rule. That may be the determining factor for them to make a good run in the tournament. Size and speed. I’ve been watching Marietta for the last few years and they have a great season and then hit the postseason and exit the tournament pretty quickly. They have a difficult district but this Waterford game may be a great opportunity to get ready for the tournament. I don’t know if Marietta has seen the defense like Waterford. Waterfords seniors who have made two tournament runs. Won a state championship their freshman year and play complete games. Wagner Sury and Smithberger will be difficult for Marietta to contain. The freshman Pottmeyer is quick. And she can create some really good defense with her speed. Watched them play Belpre who is a very similar team to Marietta and after a slow first quarter they dominated the remaining three. And from what the paper said most of the team was sick. Looking forward to seeing this match up d3 versus d7 on Tuesday. Hopefully it’s a great game with no injuries.

I would agree with the weak schedule for Marietta. I would think if they had a chance to make a deep run they would have put together a stronger schedule. With that being said, I think they are playing really well right now and seem to be hitting a good stride. They shoot the ball really well and they have a stout defense as well. Assuming Fairland was at full strength, that was an impressive win on the road (with a long bus ride I might add) to a very good team. I think Waterford is good, very good, but they are down a player and they are dealing with the flu from the way things read. That will make it even tougher for them. But I don't think Waterford at full strength can handle the Tigers right now because they seem to be playing on a different level. I think when they asked Marietta to play, they didn't care about winning or losing, I think they are looking to be the best they can be for the tournament. As you said, this is a brilliant scheduling and a no lose situation for them. I know teams like to go undefeated and that will be a big thing for this Marietta team but it may be added pressure to go into the tournament undefeated. So even though I think Marietta wins this game easily, I am not sure it is the best thing for their season overall. Best of luck to both for an injury free game.

Marietta beat Belpre by 35.
Belpre is nothing like Marietta, no disrespect to Belpre intended.
Marietta’s starters scored 10, 14, 18, 11 and 8 against Fairland. 4 girls who can and do hit from anywhere on the offensive side of court. They can drive and score. They can drive and stop and pop. Extremely good free throw shooting team.
Tenacious pressure defense that has only given up 50 points twice this year, and Fairland wasn’t one of them.
