SEO D III

Only six teams in D III so things will be interesting. We only get one out of the district semifinal to go up against the east district semifinalist for the right to move on to the regional. Team 1 gets a buy and plays the winner of 3 & 6. Teams 2 gets a buy and plays the winner of 4 & 5. Maxpreps currently has them as:
1 Marietta
2 Athens
3 Sheridan
4 Unioto
5 Miami Trace
6 Chillicothe
I have seen the top four teams play multiple times but I am curious how people see this playing out.

Did Unioto return basically the same team from last year? They obviously don’t seem to be as good as last year.

Unioto graduated a few good senior players, return 2-3 starters and start a couple freshman. They have played three very good teams so far this season and lost to all of them, two of the games were close. They have a lot of talent, one starter has missed some games with injuries, another is returning from an injury from last season, looks like they are still trying to put it all together.

Thanks. They have played a strong schedule thus far.

Unioto with a nice win over Harvest Prep to continue with the strong schedule.

As I just read in the paper, Athens is having a HISTORIC season. Just ask Grand dad.

It looks like the seeding will be very little changed. Marietta-Sheridan and Athens-Unioto would be the quarterfinals with the winner playing in the district semi to get to move on vs. the East for a trip to the regional. I think this is the worst case scenario for Marietta as they would have to beat both Sheridan and Unioto to get there. Good news for them is that they will get Sheridan at home so that could very well be a deciding factor. I wavered for a little bit but still think Unioto is the pick in this group. They seem to be playing pretty well although I still scratch my head over the Laurel game. Should be some good games though.

If you saw the shooting numbers from the Laurel game, it would make more sense lol, outside of Smith, it was a struggle from the field in the 2nd half.
What will give Unioto some trouble is a big that can score. It’s been the story of their losses so far. The freshman is getting better defensively, which is a huge factor for them advancing.
Smith will be the best player in this district, but they need Hamilton, Holbert and Beard to shoot well to move on as well.

Another reason I like Unioto in this district is that I don't see that big in the other teams. Got to see Sheridan and Marietta at the Classic in the Country. Neither really has an inside presence and, as you said, I think Smith is the best player. Once again, just my opinion. Best of luck to all.

Unioto very talented, Sheridan and Marietta probably played better competition through season, just based off league games. Even though Athens is having a historic season, unlike any other in their history and have the best coach and best system, I don’t like their odds.

This should be a dandy and I think it pits good defense against good offense. I typically go with the defense in these situations but I have leaned toward Unioto all season so I am really split on this one. Any small thing could decide this (illness, injury, foul trouble, etc), but I really think if the Freshmen don't play like Freshmen then Unioto wins this. @danicalifornia can correct me if I am wrong but I think they played two years ago when Smith was a Freshman and she went off for 32 or something like that and Unioto won by 2. I doubt they let her go for that tomorrow but we will see and I do think strength of schedule favors the Generals. Wish I could get to this one.

Smith had 31 and 17 rebounds in that game. Unioto was down 15 after 3 and then Sheridan just let Smith do whatever she wanted in the final quarter for some reason.
Unioto has a similar strength of schedule as Sheridan, due to all of the showcases and such, but the game by game effort has had to be greater for Sheridan due to their league strength.
SOSA will have this game on YouTube on Wednesday for those who can’t make it. Should be a very good game.

Thanks for the info. I'll definitely try to watch some of it. Best of luck to both as either will represent SEO very well.

Sheridan is only 1-5 in close games this year, but Unioto is only 2-3, so not a whole lot better.
Unioto is down the Dennis girl, so less depth than they previously had, so rebounding can be an issue.
Sheridan is very talented as well and those kids have been apart of a lot of wins. I’m sure they’ll have some revenge on their minds from 2 seasons ago as well.

I didn't realize the Dennis girl was out. She has length and would have been a big help defensively on the inside. Did she get injured or is she sick?

Injured going after a loose ball late in the season. I believe she’s out for the season.

Never good for an injury, let alone a season ending one, but especially for a good team. Sorry to hear that and hope she recovers quickly and is good to go for track season.

Unioto reaches the district finals from this group
Smith took over the 3rd quarter and helped Unioto create the separation that they needed late, because they really struggled with ballhandling in the 4th quarter.
They’ll face Tri-Valley on Saturday for the district title.
