Big pick up for both teams. Marietta faces Fairland, Waterford, and likely Sheridan all in a row.

I have to hand it to these 2 teams. The game means nothing to either one of them from a seeding standpoint, but it's all about making your team better. Good game for Washington County fans.

Marietta whipped the Lancers last night. FH couldn't hit a shot early and it snowballed from there. Meanwhile, Marietta had to shot 60% from 3 and Baker was on fire in the first half with 5 threes and 20 points. Marietta is a good team with four solid options and they can flat out shoot. I was disappointed in the Fed Hock defense as we continue to leave players wide open and looked really confused or uninterested at times. Jaylee getting in foul trouble didn't help but that wasn't the problem. Just got taken behind the woodshed. The up and down season continues in Stewart.

I'll give credit to Waterford for scheduling this game because they are the ones that initiated it knowing they are down two starters. Without their full complement of players, I don't think Waterford can compete but I think they are looking to get their bench ready for more meaningful minutes. That is the only reason I can see them trying to schedule this game in their current situation. I could be wrong but I don't think this is much of a game but I think both coaches get what they want - Waterford gets kids ready for the Hilands of the world and Marietta can brag about beating Waterford even if they are shorthanded. Before they get to that game, Waterford will need to figure out how to beat a couple of good teams without those players. Marietta also has a big game (and probably a tougher game) with Fairland before this game so both teams have other things to focus on in the short run. As always, good luck to both teams and hopefully no more injuries.

Game looks to be on, JV tips at 6 and Marietta usually livestreams games for free.

This game could’ve gone two ways. And it did not go the way that I thought it would. Marietta had to play defense. They have been a run-n- gun team all season long and their speed is pretty top-notch. But they have not faced a defensive stance like Waterford. Going into it- I definitely thought that Marietta had 6 to 8 point spread over Waterford. Their outside shooting and their cuts to the basket in the past 10 or 12 games have been pretty good. They did get some great shots off in the middle of the game, but in the opening quarter Waterford had a 16 to 4 lead Against the number one team in D3. I’ll hand it to Waterford, they played really well against a pretty tough team. But I don’t think that Marietta had an answer for the defense that Waterford played. And Waterford had great ball movement. Pottmeyer had a career game. Wagner a double double. Hurley off the bench with great shots. The unsung hero was Smithberger. She played a defensive battle inside and had some great rebounds- looks - steals and played an all around good game. Sury was off but she had a team around her that stepped up. It was good to see Malec back on the floor too. This Waterford team is tournament ready. Hats off to the coaches for getting this team some tough games going into the tournament. Good luck Waterford. You gained a fan tonight after that game.

Have to agree with you SEO. I thought this would be a comfortable Marietta win. But people (me included) always underestimate what Waterford can do on the defensive end and that seems to lead to what they do on the offensive end. They came out and hit the threes early but they built the lead on the defensive end. Waterford just punched them in the mouth and it seemed as though Marietta was a bit shell shocked early on. And for them to go to the half with only 17 points had to be a shock for them. And then they used Marietta's pressure against them in the second half by moving the ball and getting easy buckets. You can say what you want about the shooting but Marietta didn't get any separation for their shots until the last couple of minutes when things were out of control. But by that time, they had no legs and couldn't hit a shot. Agree with you on Smithberger as well. I thought she pretty much shut Baker down and Baker had 20 in the first half against Fed Hock. Great game plan by the Close/Hilverding tandem and great execution from the players.
