Waterford and Fort Frye

I’m not sure anyone was even in the area of these two high schools last night. From the looks of the Fort Frye game, it looked like the entire community showed up and then you switched over to the Waterford game and their side was full of green. Last night, two communities who are just separated by a river and maybe a mile showed up for their two teams. Not to mention both schools had state qualifying wrestlers. I know the rivalry is thick between these two schools, but these two communities have a lot to be proud of.

The rivalry between the schools is not intense. Yes, they want to beat each other, but at least 90% of Fort Frye and Waterford fans are happy the other one is still playing.
But to your broader point . . . YES! I'm not a good hype man, but two regional champions from the same little community is pretty incredible!

I know both have made it in the past but I don't think they ever made it the same year. Anyone from those towns know if they were ever close to going in the same year? One team made it to final four and the other lost in the regional, for example???

I don't recall what Waterford did in 2020. Fort Frye was supposed to play in the state semis that year.

Interesting that both are playing Friday at 7pm- one at Claymont HS and the other at Dover HS- to bad could not find 1 location to host those 2 games.

Still crazy to think about the proximity of both schools and the success they're able to have. I would imagine Fort Frye can even be seen from the roof of Waterford.

Fun fact
Waterford plays Mogadore.
FF plays Rootstown
Waterford and FF a mile or so separates these two
Mogadore and rootstown- 12 miles between them.

I think both of these teams move on to the championship game in their divisions. I believe that each got the fourth best team in their division to play. Obviously those teams are playing well right now but I expect Waterford and Fort Frye to have comfortable wins on Friday.
If I have the numbers right this would be Coach Close's eighth win versus 5 losses in the state final four and if it happens will be his sixth time in the championship game. And it will be Coach Liedtke's first win versus two losses in the final four and would be his first time coaching in the championship. That is looking ahead, I know, but best of luck to both teams. It would be something if both got there and both won.

I think FF only lost once in the Final Four. I believe their semifinal game in 2020 was canceled as the COVID stuff hit.

I think he was looking at Liedkte’s coaching record. He also has a final four appearance with the boys

I don't know how good Mogodore and Rootstown are, but this is the first final four appearance for either team.

WMOA/WJAW have streamed the prior games, but as of now, they have not posted anything on their FB page as to whether they are going to stream either of these games.
