South Point Middle School Soccer
South Point Middle School Soccer
South Point will now have a paid school sponsored Coed Middle School soccer team next year.
Re: South Point Middle School Soccer
Does that mean they will play on the turf instead of by the little league fields?unclebob wrote:South Point will now have a paid school sponsored Coed Middle School soccer team next year.
Re: South Point Middle School Soccer
Congrats to South Point. How many games will they get and who will they play? Like to see more local schools follow.
Re: South Point Middle School Soccer
I imagine they will keep playing the same schools they have been (Burg, Ashland, Boyd Co, Russell, etc). Just now they will be school funded and be able to travel on busses.
Re: South Point Middle School Soccer
ironton st. joe, Chesapeake and fairland have school sponsored teams in Lawrence county already so they were just following their lead I guess
Re: South Point Middle School Soccer
Interesting topic.
At Waverly, we have been in discussion over the past couple years on what is best for our program.
Currently most schools Waverly and into Ross and Jackson counties have school sponsored programs. Most of scioto county's teams are run by a youth league. In most cases the school sponored schools aren't allowed to compete with the club programs for insurance reasons.
What would be your preference?
School sponsored means school paid
Club programs are privately paid and don't include transportation, but have much more freedom to scheduling.

Re: South Point Middle School Soccer
Having uniforms and travel costs covered by the school are big advantages, but many schools are going to pay-to-participate, so that advantage is going away. I believe you are allowed 14 games and a tournament each year if you are school affiliated (maybe 16-17 games). I know the Burg kids that play in the rec league and also in the non-official jr high team play way more games than that. Our team plays nearly all school sponsored teams from schools in Ohio and KY and have no problem scheduling, so the insurance issue is a non-factor in allowing the kids to play a bunch of games each fall. Maybe that is just a Waverly specific issue?

Great to see SP with official jr high team. Hope Scioto county teams follow. Still several years away IMO. Will be interesting to see what imapct pay to play has? School sponsored play vs club team seems to be school district driven. Most don't seem to mind playing club team. Especially at jr high level. Let's hope that soccer fever keep catching and spreading.

On a side note, we have 4 Junior High teams registered for the 7v7 tournament at the PIke County YMCA on June 21st. Would be great to get some more!! Only $100 per team if you register along with your high school program.
