Re: Boys Southeast District Soccer Schedules/Scores 2022
I wanted to comment on the 20-0 score line for the Unioto--Piketon match. I'm seeing a lot of negativity and anger--and on the surface, I agree, 20-0 seems rough. I was at the match and on the opposing sideline, for what it's worth. Losing stinks. Losing 20-0 stinks worse.
IMO, this score line is more of an indictment on Piketon than Unioto. Kudos to us, we're trying. We have a small squad and largely inexperienced. We had a player go down before the end of the 1st half and that left us even more depleted. I won't whitewash a coach, because I believe he's doing the best he can. We started the game with a flat back 6 in the box...and that back 6 did not move from outside of the SIX box for the first 20 minutes; didn't move outside of the EIGHTEEN for seemingly the entire 1st half. We're just inviting goals at that point. I understand how an inexperienced coach might think that stacking your box is solidifying your defense, but the majority of you here should understand what keeping 6 kids literally on top of your keeper is going to do. I totally agree 20 goals has no place in a match, but I really don't know how it would have been avoided without some sort of mercy rule or Unioto just making a mockery of us and playing keep away.
I don't care enough to keep track, but I don't think that any specific player for Unioto scored a majority of their goals. I would assume it was pretty easily distributed among the entire team. I would also be led to believe the majority of the 2nd half was played by Unioto's 2ns team. Several of the goals I witnessed were on shots outside the box.
Take that for what it's worth. Just my opinion.
I'll add for the record--The cards are inexcusable. No place for cards in a game you win 20-0, that's just common sense. From what I could gather from the stands those cards looked to be for dissent, but I don't know that to be certain.

Re: Boys Southeast District Soccer Schedules/Scores 2022
Its always a hard line to tip toe when games get out of hand like that. I know as a player if an opposing team was up a lot and started doing things like "keep away", "X amount of passes before a shot", etc, I would feel extremely disrespected. being up a lot should give teams the chance to experiment and try different things without any pressure. changing formation, trying different players in different spots. But the intensity should always be high. You shouldn't punish kids for playing hard and competing all 80 minutes.
As someone who mainly follows the SHAC there have also been some big scorelines this season. Peebles girls have just restarted their program and normally have around 11 players for a game. So any injury if they happen automatically puts them at a disadvantage. some of their scores have been 11-1, 12-0, 12-0, 15-0, and yesterday it was 9-0 as the game was stopped 20 minutes early for darkness. Their coach(who is a first year by the way) however at least from I've seen and heard hasn't complained publicly and has used those losses to motivate them to try and get those girls to be as good as those teams. Ripley and West Union have also suffered a few big losses as well. Both on the boys and girls side of things.
All in all I think each coach needs to use every game as learning experience win or loss. 20-0 is huge and hopefully it was not just 1-2 guys scoring. if you have 9 different scorers for example there really isn't much else you can do other than taking your guys/girls off the field and playing 10 or even 9v11. Just my two cents and take it how you want. I'm in no way condoning a win by that margin however.

Wasn’t able see it. I was told Burg took plenty of shots but just couldn’t find the back of the net.
