Re: Tournament Predictions
Agreed! St Joe plays in the SOC1 , a very weak conference. And usually play a weak non conference schedule. But added south Webster and Minford this year. Maybe help their program grow playing better competition. Overall record is deceiving.
Re: Tournament Predictions
Anxious to see South Webster. They seem to be dialed in at the right time.
Re: Tournament Predictions
SHAC vs SOC2 this Saturday in D5 district finals. Good luck to both Scioto county teams!

Re: Tournament Predictions
I know I didn’t really go out on a limb on any of them, but I’ll take 9-9 on district champsdanicalifornia wrote: ↑Sun Oct 13, 2024 1:47 am Gonna just throw out thoughts on District Champs. It’s very chalky, but these new divisions and districts are set ver favorably for the favorites
Girls
Division V
Minford over Eastern Brown
Lynchburg-Clay over Fairfield
Division IV
Wheelersburg over McClain
Division III
Fairfield Union over Chillicothe
Boys
Division V
Minford over Ironton St. Joseph
South Webster over Lynchburg-Clay
Division IV
Wheelersburg over Zane Trace
Gallia Academy over Unioto
Division III
Chillicothe over Marietta
I’ll also guess that Wheelersburg boys get to the Final Four, Minford girls will have a very good chance.
My picks for the best games will be the D3 district finals in boys and SW/LC on the boys side as well. I also think Chillicothe vs Athens on the girls side could be very interesting. I also just did this in 10 minutes at 1:45 am after being very frustrated by the OSU game, so this could be way off.

Re: Tournament Predictions
Can we get better officials on these big games? Watching in person and again on stream, the foul on SW in the box was incredibly soft, especially in comparison for how the rest of the game was called
Then, stopping the clock on subs with more than 5 minutes left as well because the ref “knows what you’re doing” as far as legally subbing with plenty of time left.
Heard that the Burg game was also a train wreck as far as the officials throwing their weight around towards players.

Re: Tournament Predictions
I'll agree the officiating has not been great this year, but what's the answer to it? Nobody wants to be an official. It's not worth getting screamed at by both sets of fans for 80 minutes. Obviously some fan bases are worse than others.

Re: Tournament Predictions
Typically, at this point in the competition, the referees are from the Columbus/Cincy area where the game is played at a higher more physical level. They tend to let play be at the level they are used to seeing, vs actually calling the game at the level its at.danicalifornia wrote: ↑Thu Oct 31, 2024 12:53 am Can we get better officials on these big games? We also need to help promote the the younger referees with a pathway vs the old guys club where its the same ones year after year.

These ones were local, likely due to the additional games being played across the state with the added divisions.ndc soccer wrote: ↑Thu Oct 31, 2024 9:31 pmTypically, at this point in the competition, the referees are from the Columbus/Cincy area where the game is played at a higher more physical level. I talked to someone tonight that suggested using younger referees as the ARs at thr midline for this level. This could help two fold, as a learning experience from more experienced officials and also showing that they have a chance to move up as well.
Re: Tournament Predictions
Two things from the GOAT….
Officials were sub par, but the game on paper was basically even up between Minford and South Webster. Someone was going to win and someone was going to lose in a close and heart breaking fashion no matter who had the whistles.
Secondly, what a great achievement to the Minford soccer program to have both boys and girls teams playing in the regional finals. I’ll throw in wheelersburg boys soccer and girls volleyball in this as well. Scioto county needs to get behind these young men and women.
Good Luck to our SOC teams!

Re: Tournament Predictions
I can say from experience that any ambitious young ref worthy of big games will get them by year 2 (here in the SE). The biggest issue with the younger refs is they often have a hard time with the professionalism part of the job: communicating with the assignor, showing up on time, proper uniform, attending association/rules meetings, etc. Put in the work, and assignors will gladly give you a shot on good games.ndc soccer wrote: ↑Thu Oct 31, 2024 9:31 pm We also need to help promote the the younger referees with a pathway vs the old guys club where its the same ones year after year.

Re: Tournament Predictions
They neither may win it all but that is great boys and girls both in the final four
Re: Tournament Predictions
I guess I have to eat my words. That was a bold prediction. Although they are final 4, I still give you credit for that call.

Re: Tournament Predictions
Not sure on the girls side, but the boys have a legit shot, especially this next game. They just proved they could beat the "best team in the state" and now play a team that isn't to grandviews level IMO by watching film. Grandview beat Hiland pretty easily and Hiland beat this team, so comparing teams each played etc...very winnable game if they play to their potential like yesterday! Good luck Falcons!
