Minford Boys Make History

Minford boys become the first SE District team to reach the state final in soccer! A great achievement and a proud program representing us all. I’m sure the community will be there Monday in support of the falcons, but this is something all soccer fans from the SE district should do in support. Make the drive up the old crew stadium and represent the SE district and the MIGHTY MINFORD FALCONS! Best of luck…

I’m low on the totem pole of soccer knowledge but I’ve watched a lot more the last couple of years.

I do have a question and I can kinda math it out in my head but still seems a little off (or maybe I’m just flat out off)
Minford was division 2 out of 3 possible divisions last year….but this year they are division 5 out of 5 divisions? So if there were 480 teams last year (just a number) the top 160 are D1, middle sized 160 are D2 and smallest 160 are D3 (maybe fewer D1’s and more in other 2)….so now if 5 divisions and 480 so maybe 80 D1, 100 D2, 100 D3, 100 D4, 100 D5.

So last year say Minford was smallest D2…..putting 160 teams smaller in size. I know my numbers are made up and maybe way off….but how are they now in the bottom 100 in size?

Nothing of this question is a jab at Minford or the history they are making but I’m interested in how it works?

The first time I looked at the divisions this year, I was very surprised by Minford being D5 and Burg being D4 for the same reasons.

They had a large CB, I know that much.

This may be stating the obvious, but the general lack of smallest-of-the-small schools statewide fielding soccer I think is partly why that previous D2 classification spans as many of the current divisions of today.

If that makes sense? I don’t actually know how long or when Minford was D2 under the previous system, but in light of how many of the archetypical smaller schools with soccer programs are private schools — therein entailing more tier 2 kids to be CB multiplied at 7(?) apiece, e.g. the schools in Franklin County — I guess it kinda explains how 164 EMIS + CB lands you in the smallest classification.

It definitely makes sense. As a soccer follower, it was something I was interested in, because Chillicothe has been very strong for quite some time, but was always comfortably D1, but now they are D3 and made a regional final.

For Minford, with a CB of 15 last year, they were the smallest D2 in the state. That # dropped to 8 this year, which kept them in D5, but if it were 15 again, they would have been D4. So, they were right on the edge.

Lost 1-0, but gave themselves a shot with pretty consistent play on the counter attack

Heavily outshot, but Glockner really only had to make 1-2 difficult stops because the shots were outside of the box. Against a team like SCD, you aren’t going to own possession so I thought they did what they could to give themselves a chance.

A great showing by the Minford crowd as well for those kids after such a magical run.

River View nabs the first-ever East District state championship in soccer, also the first-ever for the MVL. Big 1-0 win in 2OT against a historic Worthington Christian side.
