Way to go Chillicothe CAVALIERS for winning the Boys SEOAL Championship 2-0 tonight over the Marietta Tigers in the DOC's game at Mt. Logan School Field in Chillicothe.
Great game was there tonight. Great to see the Cavalier Football Team come out to support the Soccer Team
Very good game played tonight by both teams. The score was 0-0 at half. Chillicothe went up 1-0 early in the second half on a questionable PK.
Chillicothe extended the lead 2-0 when Gregg Van Volkinburg's strike hit the far post and deflected back into the middle where Drew Basil was there to clean it up.
The chances were very even in the first half with Marietta getting 5 SOG to Chillicothe's 4. The second half was controlled a little more by Chillicothe with the CAVS outshooting Marietta on goal 7-3.
Both goalkeepers played extemely well with Chillicothe's Koty Chandler arguably having his best game of the year. Both goalkeepers were at their best.
These teams may meet for a third time this season in a couple of weeks in the district semi-finals (a repeat of last year) if both teams win their first two games.
Marietta won the SEOAL in 2006. (the year Chillicothe entered the league) Chillicothe has won the title the last two years. (2007 & 2008)
In those 3 years the teams are 2-2-1 with each other over 5 games.
Congrats to Chillicothe. Both schools have fine soccer programs and are always fun to watch. I wish I could have seen this one. Good luck to both squads in the postseason.
congrats to Chilly, maybe we can play again in a couple of weeks.
I was disappointed to see another game being refereed by only two refs. With two very fast teams upfront it is impossible for them to see what they need too.
I was also disappointed to see a very weak PK decide the flow of the game. I want to know how our player ended up on the ground and a foul being called on him. They needed to let the kids decide it on the field. After the PK Marietta never got it back together.
Like i said maybe we can play the tie breaker in a couple of weeks if we get passed Waverly.
You are right! This time of year, I think almost any team could pull out a victory! I guess our only common opponent would be Chillicothe...They beat us pretty easily (6-3)...We knew going into this match that we needed to stop Tony Skowronek and he scored 5 of their 6 goals! I would say our major deficiencies are on the defensive side of the ball. We don't adjust well to certain situations (ref non-calls, aggressive play, etc.). The Waverly coach runs a 4-3-3 formation, which I think leaves way too much space in the midfield for the other team to win the ball and probably is the major reason why the defense has struggled against teams with strong players in the middle (Chilli, Burg and Minford). We have also had issues with playing two good halves of soccer this season (which might lead back to the adjustment thing)...In all but the loss to the Cavs, we have lead the game at the halftime break: 1st meeting with Burg = Up 3-0 at half / Won 3-2 1st meeting with Minford = Up 4-0 at half / Won 4-3 2nd meeting with Burg = Up 2-1 at half / Lost 4-5 2nd meeting with Minford = Up 1-0 at half / Lost 1-2
Waverly has had a fine season and we are real proud of our kids, but these are the things that need fixing if we plan to get past South Point, much less Marietta or Chillicothe!
