South Point fielded both a boys and girls team. The girls team was seeded 8th because they didn't play any girls games and faced a #1 seed in the first round and lost. The boys team was seeded #4 and hosted St. Joe and St. Joe won. The SP team wasn't the same boys only as it was co-ed. St. Joe then went on to lose to SW in the Sectional Final.

I believe that Adena is at Alexander tonight too, it's a replacement game for the one that Peebles cancelled with Alex earlier this year.

Chillicothe at Marietta

Marietta takes a 1-0 lead early, Chillicothe comes back with two goals to take the lead 2-1, Marietta comes back with two of their own just before half to make it 3-2. Marietta gets the only goal of the second half.

Chilly 2
Marietta 4

Teams meet again Saturday at 12:45 pm in Chillicothe to complete a suspended game. Approximately 17 minutes have been played.........

Thoughts on DII seeding in the south?

Marietta
Warren
Chillicothe
Waverly
Unioto
Athens
Jackson
Gallia

I would say that 3-6 could be a crap shoot. Chillicothe probably holds the edge for #3 with wins over Waverly and Jackson but Waverly, Unioto and Athens should battle it out for the next 3.

Well, I would say that Marietta is 1 and Warren is 2. No argument there, I believe.

The rest of the teams have been struggling. The head-to-head match ups will be important, although that gets complicated too since there are quite a few ties between the teams and many of teams didn't play each other.

I think the theme for each team is "Do you have a big win?" Here's my definition for a big win: a victory over teams who are over .500 with a competitive schedule. The list is rather short. Chillicothe beat Waverly (although Waverly's schedule is weak... call me a jerk if you want, but they play 0 DI teams and only three games at the DII level and toughest of those was an under .500 Chillicothe who beat them down 4-1.) Athens beat Fairfield Union. Waverly beat Minford.

Unioto, Gallia, and Jackson don't have the big wins, but Unioto has a decent overall record.

In general, I think the theme is flip a coin... it's going to be an interesting meeting. Think the only things that are clear going in are: 1. Marietta 2. Warren... 7. Gallia 8. Jackson.

Outside of that, I think strength of schedule and a disastrous result vs. Chillicothe moves Waverly down below Athens and Chillicothe. Athens and Chilli tied 2-2, but neither Athens or Chillicothe played Unioto. Waverly played Unioto and tied Unioto 1-1.

I suppose the answer to this is going to be figured out by Marietta and Warren. Who do they want to play?

Waverly gets crap for their "weak schedule" every year...I agree that they don't play the toughest schedule, but they are stuck in the SOC with a bunch of Div III teams and by the time they make it through league play, that only leaves three non-conference openings...

You're right that there's little room for Waverly to add non-conference teams and in fairness to Waverly, they're not located near a DI school to schedule... BUT that means the game vs. Chillicothe is really the main time to show what they can do and they've gotten beat down in that game the last few years. It may be tough on them, but that's what their seeding place really relies on. How are they vs. DII? Waverly has a great program, but they're not quite as good as they could be due to not being challenged regularly. Anyone remember when they still had Purpero and the #1 seed in 2005 and got knocked out in their first sectional game? They get great games from South Webster (better than many of the DII teams), Wheelersburg, and Minford, but the rest of the league games don't prepare them well for the DII tournament.
