Re: 10-7-10 New Boston hosts South Webster
Swanker is not a kid on the team - just a student fan, but I hope he will hold things down on here in the future. He is always entitled to his predictions of the games.
The game was pretty crazy. New Boston was playing hard & I think a little out of control (the officials must have thought so too). They really do have a young squad & they just didn't stay mentally focused. Teams in our area are learning how to play physical and yet clean (shoulder to shoulder, shielding the ball, clean slide tackles from the front, etc.), but you still see some players get upset when this happens and retaliate with a deliberate shoulder charge or a hack at ankles.
It's something that has to change. We all have to play physical & remain composed if we are going to compete with teams out of our area. It's something that has to be done at team practices & carry over into games. We need to play physical within the limits of the game. Playing hard & yet clean is good sportsmanship

I heard Courtney Delotell got a red card in that game. Don't you wish you had 10 players with that much heart on the field. For her size, she can flat out get in there and mix it up.
As for SW players, they did play a lot cleaner this year than last.

One of our players tells his teammates "take the hit and play the game". Like in most sports it's usually the retaliation shove that gets the card.vballsoccer178 wrote:Swanker is not a kid on the team - just a student fan, but I hope he will hold things down on here in the future. Rocky, who cares about last year? And for the record, they're the same team. Just a little improved. Quit taking little jabs at the team. It's irritating.

That's showing some real class LB8. I gave SW a compliment and you find it irritating.lovevball8 wrote:Rocky, who cares about last year? And for the record, they're the same team. Just a little improved. Quit taking little jabs at the team. It's irritating.

Spare me your thoughts on class. It's obvious that you lack it. You constantly make remarks about SW and then say "it was a compliment". Surely, I'm not the only one who sees through your complimentary facade.

Take it easy on rocky, fellas. If I was a Clay fan, I'd probably hang out on Webster threads as well. Closest you'd ever get to a relevant team in any sport.*
Re: 10-7-10 New Boston hosts South Webster
While I would never defend rocky or my2cents or whatever he is calling himself these days...I think you, art_vandelay, are no better with such comments...you might want to take a look at the banners and trophies clay can produce to show their relevance throughout school, ohsaa, and soc history...whether from the past or in the present...

I don't need defended by the likes of you OU AD. SW has a great soccer program at this time. You can't blame the team for what classless people say on the internet.
As for you AV, did you ever consider I read all the threads and the NB is also listed in this one, or do you think SW is the only program in Southern Ohio. I asked you on the first page to point out where I disrepected the team or program, and you got nothing. I poked a little fun a Swank, but now that I know that he is just a kid, I can overlook his comments. You should know better. To cut an entire school sports program, that's nice................

what was the red card from the game? have heard anything from 0 to 4. must have been physical. if the one pair of local officials had the game i am sure the game got physical. i attended a fight in waverly earlier this season and a soccer game broke out.... LOL

I'm not trying to start an arguement, especially over the internet but i must say I was at the New Boston vs S.Webster game and the South Webster Boys did play very dirty. I know that soccer is a physical sport but what do you expect someone like Courtney Delotell to do when she has someone pulling and shoving her around? She is a very good player along with the rest of the New Boston Team. But the reffs let it get out of hand. One reff (a former player for the South Webster Jeeps) called way late calls and threw out a double yellow on one of the New Boston Players. 10 Cards were thrown to New Boston Players and 0 To South Webster Players. All i have to say is you know what color's the reffs were wearing that night! Like I said i'm not rooting for either school, and I'm not trying to start an arguement, it was just a dirty game!

Minford_Grad,
You may not want to start an argument, but I'm afraid that's exactly what you are doing. I doubt you were at the game. South Webster plays physical using their bodies to shield the ball. They challenge in the air. That's fair play. There were 7 yellow cards (one was a double) and one red. Two of the yellow cards were to the coaches. So really really it was 5 to new Boston players.
The senior official called South Webster the next day to commend them for keeping cool and playing the game the way it was supposed to be played.
Again - I'm not sure what you were watching but you are out of line to take a shot at South Webster like that.
The double yellow was for delay of game (kicking the ball out after the whistle) followed by him mouthing the official. I don't think the official had much of a choice but to give the 2nd yellow. Kids need to respect the officials.
I really shouldn't be spending this much time writing this, but some people believe some of the crazy things that people post on here.
As I said before - New Boston played hard & being young, they let their emotions get the best of them. The coaches will continue to work the team and they have some great potential for the future.

If South Webster was 0-13 no one would say a word about the style of play.

First of all who said anything about a green-eyed jealousy bug?
i'm outta high school i could careless, but I was at the game and there were HORRIBLE calls from both reffs!
i'm sure your both from Webster but go figure? & i'm not starting an arguement i'm stating my opinion about the game!
Levi Horsley is a good friend of mine and he may or may not run his mouth to the reff, but it was also a late call as well!
But i know your gonna do your best to take up for South Webster because they do no wrong and they play clean!
0-13? really are you gonna go that far? i'm pretty sure New Boston record wasn't that low! They may not be good but at least they are a team who will get out there and fight for what they want, it may not be all the time, but at least you can say they try!
So it's all OPINIONS on my behalf no arguing...Just stating the obvious of that game!

Re: 10-7-10 New Boston hosts South Webster
The obvious is that New Boston received 7 yellow cards and one red in that 1 game. South Webster has received less than that for the entire season (no reds) and received 0 cards in this game.
Also, I have noticed that we don't have any trouble with the northern teams on our schedule---Zane Trace, Alexander, Athens----these teams are all physical teams who understand the right way to play physical. They don't tackle from behind and take people's legs out. The Zane Trace game Monday was very physical but only one card was issued combined and people were helping each other up and the same for the Alex game.
Last year Worthington Christian taught us a lesson. They were much more physical than us. MUCH! Come watch them play this year, and you will understand. South Webster has improved since then.
Lastly, if you could have cared less then you wouldn't have posted........ I always cringe when someone says "I don't mean to argue" or when they say "I don't want to complain"....... Cause you know that is exactly what they are going to do!
It wouldn't have mattered who the refs were, the result would have been the same. In fact, New Boston played a great first half and is the only team to score 2 goals vs Webster this year-----Waverly, Burg, Minford, Athens, Zane Trace and Alexander combined scored 3 goals vs us and New Boston scored 3 goals vs us in both games combined. Not bad!
The 0-13 reference wasn't towards New Boston----jeep 80 was playing on the 16-0 season Webster has just finished. South Webster is far from a dirty team. But, hey that is my opinion........ They are physical though and very big for a soccer team. Alexander's coach was quoted on their website (where there is a great article about the game) talking about the quality of team we have (size and speed).
good luck to you and your friend-----I understand you taking up for him----but not at the cost of calling out a team with such a slanted point of view. Facts----New Boston 8 cards given, South Webster 0 cards given. Facts are not well liked sometimes on here though!

Minford Grad---
First of all, the phrase "I'm not trying to start an arguement...but.." carries with it the connotation "Get ready. I'm about to stir the pot and tick some people off!"
Secondly, it is obvious that you are a New Boston supporter and your view is biased. My opinion is biased as is some of the posters above. Most people on this website have biased opinions.
Let's, for one minute, take opinion out of this and look at the facts:
Did New Boston have any yellow cards? Yes. 7 yellow cards
Did South Webster have any yellow cards? No. Not one.
Did New Boston receive a card for delay of game? Yes.
Did South Webster receive a card for delay of game? No.
Did New Boston receive a card for dissent? Yes.
Did South Webster receive a card for dissent? No.
Did New Boston coaches receive any cards? Yes. 2 yellow cards.
Did South Webster coaches receive any cards? No. Not one.
Did a New Boston player receive a red card for pushing over and over again? Yes.
Did a South Webster player receive a red card for pushing over and over again? No.
Did New Boston tackle hard from behind? Yes.
Did South Webster tackle hard from behind? No.
Did the senior official call New Boston to commend them on a good, clean game? Probably not.
Did the senior official call South Webster to commend them on a good, clean game? Yes
It's okay to have an opinion. But you should have some facts to back up your opinion.
I could go on but I think that's enough facts for today...
Thirdly, I'm not sure that you understand the rules of soccer. Here's some Q&A for you:
Q: Are players allowed to make contact with one another.
A: Yes. as long as that contact is good, clean contact. Players are allowed to run next to each other shoulder to shoulder. However, players are not allowed to ram into one another with their shoulders nor are they allowed to drop their shoulder into the opposing player.
Q: Are players allowed to shove opposing players.
A: No. Absolutely not. Arms cannont be extended when making contact with an opposing player.
Q: Are players allowed to slide tackle from behind.
A: No. That is not legal.
Q: Can you kick a ball away from an opposing player when it is their throw in?
A: No. That is called "delay of game".
Q: What should a player do when they receive a yellow card?
A: A player receiving a yellow card should leave the field immediately. If a player who is cautioned with a yellow card stays on the field to run his mouth and argue with the referee, that player may receive another yellow card for dissent.
I'll leave the Q&A at that for today but may return later to educate you some more.
I suggest you should go up North to watch some soccer.
If you think South Webster plays rough then you've seen nothing. Teams up North are allowed to play soccer. The officials in this area blow their whistles at the slightest contact.
South Webster plays aggressive but not dirty. There is a big difference.

Thank you! And, if I knew you were writing that, then I wouldn't have posted mine!
Let's leave both of them! I just wish some of these people would do what you said and go up north and watch 2 columbus teams play soccer. They have no clue! NONE!
South Webster had one player who played for the Worthington Crew last Spring and you should have seen some of those game in that club league.......... but very rarely did someone lose their temper simply because that is how they expected the game to be played.
