2012 is here, the season is closer than we think. What are everyone's thoughts for the 2012 season? Can Warren repeat as District Champions in D2? What about Wheelersburg in D3? Who are the other teams to look out for in 2012? Would love to get some conversation started....

I think people around southern ohio should watch out for the piketon redstreaks.. with last year being their first year you could say they did an alright job, I think they could contend in the area :12224

Wheelersburg lost a lot to graduation include the D3 SE District player of the year. They will still be solid, but it depends on who can step up and fill the shoes of the graduating seniors. Keith Thurmer was 2nd on the team with 16 goals and 10 assists as a freshman and will likely be relied on heavily to carry the scoring load.

I Wouldn't count out Marietta this year, lost a lot of talent but they have a few upcoming juniors who have been making an impact on the varsity squad and will finally get to take the spoltlight. Plus the JV team had a few guys that look like they could be varsity ready soon.

waverly will be contender for soc. they did lose a lot to graduation. minford and wheelersburg will hold their own. hopefully, all soc teams will have good numbers. numbers were down last year and that really challenges the programs future.

RxBurgFan Waverly did lose seniors this past year but they were a young team. Because of this i believe they will be fine in the 2012 season breezing through the SOC once again and making it again to districts

I'm getting excited, soccer around the corner. I think people should keep eye out for Northwest. They did lose some strong players this year but also played a lot of underclassmen. They do have a very strong group of freshmen coming in. With Coach Keeney and Amburgey they are improving. In 2-3 years I feel they will make runs at SOC. Their kids are always looking for opportunities to get field/gym time. Hard working bunch.

As for the most improved teams I would look out for northwest, Jackson, and Chillicothe. Wheelersburg always reloads and does have a player in Thurmer. Minford has a lot of talent returning as well. At Waverly we will have to replace 4 key players but still return a goalkeeper and 3 players off of the back line and many strong players from the huge junior class.
We have added Marietta and Athens to our regular season schedule, we're looking forward to getting started again here soon!

socman, agree with you. I believe SOC II will be a battle this year. I think Waverly will still be the team to beat. Heard they been playing futsal this winter. Haven't had chance to go watch them. Some of the Northwest kids being more active in offseason which should start to show next few years. Soccer is not just an in season sport, it should be year round for the serious players. Good luck in the upcoming season.
