Drrabitt the suspense is killing us. Please post the all district team. The news media is terrible for reporting soccer as we all know. Last year my son found out he was 2nd team all district by reading the program at the all district game.

The quickest way to find out is to probably read the program again this year. Coaches know and they should be sending their players to the game for awards. The whole list will be published next week. But there are still some corrections to be made this week.

ok question, how does jackson, warren and ironton st joe get two players in this game when minford is in regional semi's and only gets one representative, granted if they make it far enough he wont be playing in this game anyways but still that does seem to make sense to me?

i'm by no means doubtin that these kids dont deserve it dont get me wrong im just curious cause i know that minford has 12 seniors, therefore i would think they would have more than 1 representative.

but congrats to all these kids on a great season and great careers and good luck in the future.

Minford (obviously) only has one senior on first team if only one appears on the roster. It doesn't mean that they don't have more players on first team (or second team). It just means that they do not have more seniors on first team.

How could Evan Price be left off the all district team? There has to be a mistake or some rotten politics. Drrabbit, just who plays in the game? I know only seniors, but the rosters you provided has to consist of 1st, 2nd and possibly honorable mention players.

Everyone who is on first team all-district that is a senior is on the roster. If a team does not have a first team member that is a senior, then the coach can choose a senior to play on the all-star team in their slot.

Most coaches choose to nominate their seniors to first team but some do have underclassmen that they feel are in their top two or three players. And they can chose to nominate them instead. I can think of at least one freshman last year who was first team all district in division III.

How many players are on the first team, second teams etc. Secondly how many schools are these players chosen from?

How many depends on which division and whether you are talking about boys or girls.

Here is what I know from an outside perspective. Someone who belongs to the organization can correct me.

The Ohio Scholastic Soccer Coaches Association is NOT affiliated with the Ohio High School Athletic Association but rather with a national coaches association. This often cause confusion because people think that if a school belongs to the OHSAA that their players are eligible for awards. This is not the case. The coach must belong to the OSSCA for their players to get awards. The coach must also belong to the national association to belong to the OSSCA subdivision (must pay dues to both.)

The OHSAA has six organizational districts within the state of Ohio (Southeast, Southwest, Northwest, Northeast, Central and East.) The OSSCA has TEN districts. It just so happens that the Southeast district of OHSAA and the Southeast District of the OSSCA cover the exact same territory.

Clear as mud so far?

This difference is why Ohio Valley Christian which does not belong to the OSHAA and does not compete in tournaments does get to give awards and have representatives at the District all-star games. Their coach is a member. It is also why some OHSAA teams in the past have not gotten awards--because their coaches were not members.

The number of players on each team (Boys I, II, III and Girls I, II) First, Second and Honorable Mention is calculated by the number of teams in the district whose coaches belong to the OSSCA. For First and Second team, there is one player for each team plus about a 30 to 40% of the total over and above. I don't know the exact formulation. I believe it is designated by the state organization. Honorable Mention is a straight two slots per team.

For girls, there are additional slots based on the number of co-ed teams but the coeds don't get a full ~5 slots per team that the true girls teams get. Girls who play on Co-ed teams get girls honors.

Follow me so far?

Within each division, All-state is voted on first. Players are nominated by their coaches, presented by their coaches and voted on by all the coaches in the division. The top x number of vote getters gets on all state with the top player designated as Player of the year.

I am not sure how they actually decide the rest but each coach that attends the meeting gets at least one player on first team and one on second team. To get a second player or third on either team means that their coach nominated them and the other coaches voted for them to be there.

For honorable mention, all coaches can designate two of their players including coaches not at the voting meeting. This level is not voted on.

For division I boys, the totals are easy to relay. There is one team with two slots on first team and second team with one slot to the state team.

For Division II and Division III boys there are (if I recall correctly) something like 18 teams in each with 24-28 players on both first team second team. There are 4-7 state slots.

Girls divisions runs about 12-25 for each team depending on the division and a 2-5 slots for the all-state team.

Your explanation was very clear. Now I understand it much better and I think others will follow it much better as well.-. One last question, is there a maximun number of first team all district that a school could get? Specifically Boys D2

So Drrabbit with that explanation why all the secrecy of who's on the list? No news releases in the papers. nothing on seop, will we ever find out who's who in the southeast district?

I have seen as many as four players from the same team on first team all district. In theory, each voting coach could get one player on the first team and the rest could then go to players from just one other team but that would be hard to image all the coaches voting for just the players from one team.

As for the secrecy, it has to do with teams still playing in the tournament. Issues about who is on the team and who is not can be distracting to a team that needs to be focused. If you REALLY need to know, ask your coach. I believe that he/she is allowed to tell his/her own players if he/she thinks it is appropriate.

The SOC is the same way usually. For some reason they released it much earlier than usual this year. Under normal circumstances, this week would have been the earliest and then only with Coach Theresa Havens' permission. Usually I am forced to beg the list from the SOC secretary each year at this time so I can include it on the CDs. I have to promise my first born child that I won't revel it to anyone before its usual release. I was so happy to get it early this year--and shocked. :122246

I understand the rule to be that the district list is released either when the last team is out of the tournament or with the district all-star game, whichever comes first. I asked about publishing it this week and was told to wait until the game.

Hopefully Minford will bring home a Victory Sat and no one from Minford will be playing in the District game on Sun. People put too much emphasis on individual stats and awards. I would much rather see a team play great team ball than have one that gets all of the honors in the county. Good Luck Falcons! Keep the team play going and bring home that Regional Title!

Also, just imagine what advancing past Sat would do for the SOC...... Will open doors for so many kids and teams. Now that would be something to brag about!!!!!!

Well, one SOC team has already advanced beyond that game but it would be nice to get two into the final four.
