This will be a good game. Knowing the coach from DeSales pretty well they are going to be very organized and we'll coached.

Really want to see a team from the SE back at state.

Or at the very least beat a DeSales or Worthington Christian.

What a great game it was. Athens fought hard. Playing DeSales to a 1-1 at halftime. The difference was the bench players in the second half. Athens was not able to keep the high pressure on the midfield and they were able to pick out any pass they wanted. Two great shots by Romanelli to put DeSales up by two. A few changes at halftime for DeSales and they were able to contain the due of Goetz and Davis up top. Athens had a chance to cut the lead to one with about 20 mins left in the game. With the header just going over the crossbar. What a game.

It was a great game.

Athens was always the underdog and showed well. What I found really disturbing though was the 3rd DeSales goal. Their player appeared to me to simply fall down like he had been hit by a sniper....after the ball had moved away from him. The ref seemed to look back, hesitate, hear the DeSales fans screaming and then award the free kick. The DeSales player was laying with with his arm stretched out over his head like he was dying. He jumped up shortly after. There was a clear pattern of players falling to the ground in areas where a certain player could take a free kick. Funny how I've seen that over the years whenever my son played Classics.

And the officiating was poor in general. My son woke up this morning with a huge bruise on his lower back where a DeSales player jumped into him with his knee. No foul called.

I will be rooting hard for Dayton Carroll who will hopefully be the south part of the state's finalist.
