Here's the games tonight involving SOC teams
Minford v. Clay
New Boston v. West
South Webster v. Eastern
Valley v. Waverly
Wheelersburg v. South Point
Any thoughts on the match-ups?
I think Minford v. Clay could be an interesting game. Clay has been improving & Minford has had some games where they have struggled to win. I wouldn't be surprised if Clay wins this one.
Valley v. Waverly could be good too. Valley can be hard to score on and they have the ability to counter attack.
Should be an interesting night with fields still being a little wet. We'll see how much it dries out today.

I agree with you all the way on the Valley/Waverly game. Should be an exciting match to watch. I'm calling Valley 5-4.

big bad wolf, are you serious? This Waverly team isnt going to have another let down after the loss to south webster last week. I think they roll easily in this one... Waverly 4 Valley 1

South Point has turf now right? I think the game is at South Point. Burg may have a difficult time playing on the turf the way they play long ball. It's hard to track down the long ball sometimes on the fast turf. This may also be a good game to watch.

I do believe South Point has turf. Burg shouldn't have too much trouble adjusting their game for the turf. There might be a skip on but, I doubt SP will be have any answer for the pirates. The Louis kid should have another great game to go along with his senior year.

817,
Why do you try and take a shot at the burg? ive watched them play many times over the years and this so called "long ball" that everyone talks about has worked out quite well for them... from what ive seen burg has always had fast guys up front and all they do is take advantage of what the opposing defense gives them... its not thier fault that they take the "long ball" when its there...

It is what it is. Sometimes the ball over the top works. Other times it doesn't. I think a defense or even a good sweeper that gets back quickly takes care of the ball over the top pretty easily. If South Point gets back on defense before the long ball is played, they should be able to stop that kind of attack.
Minford seemed to figure that out. Still they had trouble stopping the Lewis & Jarvis combo. All I am saying is that turf is definitely different to play on and that may factor in.
Good luck both teams

I think the speed of the turf will play into the burgs hand, unless SP stays way back on defense. Clay beat SP 9 - 0. Burg beat Clay 5 - 2. I expect Burg by 3 or more goals.

It is Clay's senior night. They could beat Minford if they can put two good halfs together. So far this year, other than the Vally win they have played sloppy in the first half and great in the second.
I think Waverly has too many weapons for Valley to contain them. Valley has a couple of good players up front but I see this at 4 - 1 Waverly.
New Boston vs West will be close. I'll go with the home team by 1.
Burg by 5, SW by 8.

It was actually 6 - 2. Valentine had both goals for Clay. Minford went up 3 - 0 first half as Clay came out flat (See post above). Clay turned it on in the second half and scored two goals to make it a 3 - 2 game about midway thru, but Minford wanted it more and answered with their fourth goal. That seemed to take the wind out of Clay. Minford was playing to keep the lead or tie in the SOCII and played hard the whole game. Clay got tired and slacked up giving up two easy goals.
