WC won 2-1

It was a good effort by Hiland. They had just as many chances as Worthington (I would say even more chances), but WC made theirs count.

It was 2-0 at the half. First goal #9 Elder beat a defender and put the shot in from about 12yds out. The keeper didn't have much of a chance. The 2nd was also from Elder as he headed a cross in from the other forward.

Hiland scored with 18 min left in the 2nd half. It was a nice little chip shot over the keeper from maybe 15yds out (can't remember which player scored). WC also got a red card in the 2nd half. It was going to be a yellow, but the player decided to go for one more push (from what I could tell - maybe he said something).

Hiland put an extra forward up to try to equalize, but they ran out of time. They had a couple really good chances at the end of the game from throws & corners.

That is a pretty good/fair summary. WC had more possession and had more overall shots although most were from distance and didn't trouble the Hiland keeper. WC had 3 good chances and scored 2. Hiland had about 3-4 good chances and made 1. Game could have gone either way really. Extra player obviously helped Hiland although I thought Hiland was doing well the 2nd half even before that... wind was a factor as WC had it first half and Hiland the 2nd. Another great season for the Hawks unfortunately WC has proven tough to get past for Hiland and all the Southeast teams. I think WC has made the final four 9 of the past 10 years.

Hiland graduates 10 seniors who will be greatly missed but has a nice core of returning varsity players, particularly on defense and will have some very capable JV (15-1 record) players ready to move up.

both teams always go deep in the tourney. must have great programs to continually perform at this high level.
